Add barrel key ignition

This might seem like an odd question to some but here it is, is it possible to put a barrel key ignition switch on my M50? Recently I've had problems with my keys breaking, luckly not in the ignition but in my helmet lock and side compartment, and the new keys that I've had made aren't working will in the ignition, they stick or won't turn at all. I don't want to put to much pressure on them and have it break off in there. Does anyone know if this is possible, if so, where can I buy one?

First, I don't know how you could break your key using the helmet lock or opening the side panel. You must have cranked on it.

If you still have the key blank with the numbers on it, a Suzuki dealer could get you a new key. My guess is that you had one cut somewhere, and it may be off just enough to give you trouble.

I don't see why you could not use a different ignition setup, you would just have to wire it correctly. I also have seen a couple used M50 ignition setups on ebay from bikes being parted out.

Yes.

The utter silence would tend to indicate that nobody has any good ideas......or they don't fully understand the situation. Both those things are true in my case.

So, here's what you should do: See a locksmith. A real one. Not a bike shop or auto dealer but somebody listed in the Yellow Pages under Locksmith. If there are several, call ahead to see if they have someone who is comfortable with bike locks (most do)......or just visit them; good excuse for a ride.

As is the case in other fields, a professional locksmith will probably be able to solve your problem in less than an hour and the cost is not likely to be anywhere near what you might expect. And they probably can fix the original problem while they are at it.......unless it is an anger management problem !!

The funny thing is that I had both of the broken keys cut by a locksmith, you would think they have quality blanks at their shop.
