Gen 3:6.......... 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
It says Adam also ate.
Why is it that you think Adam didn't eat of the apple? Both Adam and Eve partook in the story.
Why the medieval church was obsessed by Eve's role is a whole different question. But they both ate.
Genesis 3:6
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
PS: we can also thank medieval artists for the apple bit. The book says it was the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. When St. Jerome, in the 5th century, translates the bible into Latin for the first time, the word he uses for "evil" is "malum". That's actually very close to the Latin word for apple. Artists thought it was a nice visual pun to paint the fruit as a literal "malum".
