Eddie Murphy will Always be Axel Foley
Anthony Hopkins will always be Hanibal Lector
Danny Glover will always be too old for this **** (Murtaugh)
Mel Gibson will be with him (Riggs)
Jason Biggs will always be the dude that ****** the pie
Jason Mews and Kevin Smith will always be Jay and Silent Bob

And

Dan Castellaneta will always be Homer Simpson

I was telling my mom today about Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October and she said "who, James Bond?"

Got me thinking, there are some actors/ actresses that will always remind you of one dominant roll that they played.

Two that spring to mind are Henry Winkler will always be the Fonz and Sylvester Stallone will always be Rocky.

Are there any that you always see as the same charactor no matter what else they do in their careers?

For me John Travolta will always be Danny Zuko. When I saw him dressed as an older woman in Hairspray I couldn't stop thinking it was Danny Zuko in a dress!!

I notice most of them are men.

Pamela Anderson will always be the slow motion running one with the boobs in the red swimsuit form Baywatch.

Victoria Principal will always be Pam Ewing

For me Stallone will always be Rambo, not Rocky; maybe that just because I prefer the Rambo films to Rocky.

Clint Eastwood springs to mind as Dirty Harry
Marlon Brando is the Godfather, Don Corleone (sp?)
Robert Carlyle as Begbie (Trainspotting)
Steve Buscemi will always be Mr Pink in my view :D
William Shatner - James T Kirk

Arnold Schwarzenegger - The Terminator
Anthony Perkins - Norman Bates
Johnny Depp - Captain Jack Sparrow
Daniel Radcliffe - Harry Potter
Elijah Wood - Frodo
Tobey Maguire - Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Christopher Lee - Count Dracula
Mark Hamill - Luke Skywalker
Mr T - B.A

I didn't see the Rambo films untill they were on telly so didn't get caught up in the moment.

I've never seen any of the Star Wars films so for me Harrison Ford will always be Indiana Jones [with or without grey hair]

Funny my OH said the same thing, so here's a couple she came up with.

Julia Roberts - Erin Brokowitz
Linda Carter - Wonder Woman
LinRABey Wagner - Jamie Summers (Bionic Woman)
Erin Grey - Col. Wilma Dearing (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century).
Hattie Jacques - Matron (Carry On films)
Roseanne Barr - Roseanne

A couple more men -

Lee Majors - Steve Austin or Colt Seavers (Fall Guy)
Dwight Schultz - Mad Murdoch
George Peppard - Hannibal
Dirk Benedict - Starbuck
Nigel Hawthorn - Sir Humphrey Appleby (Yes, Prime Minister)

Hue Grant is Daniel Cleaver
Daniel Radcliffe is Harry Potter.

Can't believe people are saying Johnny Depp! I'd say he's virtually unrecognisable in the parts he plays.

For me Courtney Cox can play other roles because I knew of her from before FrienRAB. (But she'll always be Courtney Cox, with none of the Arquette, because I still don't really believe she married someone else.)

Many of the Lord of the Rings cast are stuck. Orlando Bloom is always going to be an Elf, despite his Pirates role. Billy Boyd is "that hobbit from Lost". I can't look at Ian Holm and not see Bilbo. (Viggo Mortensen is OK, though, on account of me not really recognising Aragorn in Eastern Promises.)

Actors typecasted is usually synonymous with TV stars or escpecially soap actors.

IMO with A list movie stars the problem is not often with being stereotyped as a famous character but more with being known too much as their real life personality due to constant media attention and fame.

Most horror based actors will be forever known as the famous character they played.
Robert Englund will forever be Freddy Krueger
Boris Karloff - Frankenstein
Bela Lugosi - Dracula
Even Christopher Lee will always be best remembered as Dracula.

I think Sir John Mills has been one famous actor that has completely escaped being typecast in anyway.

speaking of sarah meesh - i was watching bones the other day, and as much as david boreanaz escapes angel when he's talking in the show, when he's silent and on screen, he will always be the vampire with the soul.

same with anthony head being giles and alyson hannigan being willow, although i guess for a big crowd of people she will be michelle flaherty forever.
i can't quite get past eliza dushku being anyone but faith, either.
maybe i'm a little buffy-obsessed. i'm going to get my head out of the buffyverse now.

For me Jack Nicholson will always be...Jack Nicholson.:D Seems to me he's the same 'character' whatever film he's in and he's the same off-screen too.
