PEACE!

Sorry if this has already been posted as this is an article from June, but actor Michael Sheen has been lined up to reprise James Bond's old arch enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld for the next Bond outing...

I'm really glad Bond producers are bringing back Blofeld. I half expected it to happen eventually, but really pleased it's now confirmed.

All we need now is for Miss Moneypenny to return to the series. Maybe the producers will reveal some of Moneypenny's back story with Bond in a future film :)

Wasn't he (well someone who looked an awful lot like him in order that Kevin McClory wouldn't sue) dropped down a chimney by Roger Moore?

Unfortunately, the author of the linked article reckons mention on IMDB.com lenRAB credence to the story.

Yes, Blofeld's last Bond appearance was in 'For Your Eyes Only' when Roger Moore carried out the perfect asassination on his old time nemesis Blofeld (although his name was never mentioned but looked an awfully lot like him and carried his trade mark brown jacket and white cat) by dropping him down a chimney from a helicoptor.

But these Daniel Craig Bond films are prequels, so these are supposed to be based many years ago when Bond was starting out, so bringing Blofeld back wouldn't affect continuity :)

I think we have to be careful calling them prequels. The production team refer to them as reboots. Casino Royale clearly is breaking any links with the previous series of films that runs from Dr. No to Die Another Day. Fans must view it as they please, but in my mind there are too many continuity problems to reconcile CR and QofS into the same series of movies. I look at it this way:

Casino Royale started a new series of Bond movies, hence the removal of the traditional gun barrel sequence at the beginning to set the movie apart from what had come before. Having Judi Dench as M confuses things slightly, but we have to take her as playing M, but it is a new character to her previous M in the previous series of films.

If the Craig movies were prequels they would have to adhere to continuity, which they don't. For example, he meets Felix for the first time in Casino Royale, but also he meets Felix for the first time in Dr. No. So the Craig movies are not in the same continuity as the Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Dalton and Brosnan movies.

With regarRAB to the 'Blofeld-a-like' in For your Eyes Only, further evidence that it is indeed Blofeld is the fact 007 is visiting Tracy's grave at the beginning. Blofeld killed Tracy.

best :)

I loved Telly Savalas's version of Blodfeld in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', one of the most underated Bond films ever and the final scene when Blofeld's men kill Bond's new bride Tracy are so effective and perhaps the sadest ever in a Bond film. I also loved the way the producer's started the next Bond film 'DiamonRAB Are Forever' off with Bond (Connery) going after Blofeld for the death of his wife.

I never much cared for Blofeld as a baddie. Donald Pleasence did a good turn in You Only Live Twice and I loved Charles Gray's version especially. Other than that I didn't get what the whole fuss was about, indeed it kinda sets apart those earlier Bond films, as being a bit old fashioned...

As for the sequel/prequel/reboot business, I just bodge it all up in my head and somehow it all fits nicely. :D

It's taken me a while to like the new Bond Daniel Craig, but after watching Quantum of Solace at the cinema last year, I'm now hooked and think Craig is the best Bond in many years and has a similiar style to that Sean Connery's Bond had.

Michael Sheen? The guy that looks the same, has the same silly expressions and the same accent in every film hes in? In a James Bond movie? James Bond being a british agent? Can Michael Sheen do a dodgy looking british bloke? Yes he caaaaaaaaaan!

*yawns at the idea of another James Bond movie*

Yes that would be good, or maybe shoot a reference to when Bond enRAB up in hospital after using a Beretta gun (as per the scene in Dr No when M made reference to when Bond last used that particular model of gun).

I don't think they will though unfortunately, as this new series of Bond films are complete refresh and seperate from the original films with Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan.

It also took me a while to get into the Brosnan Bond films, but from The World Is Not Enough I started to get into them and started watching Brosnan's other Bond films.

The best Bond though for me is without a doubt Sean Connery. He is the ultimate Bond and always will be :)

Yes, I read somewhere that this wasn't true, he wasn't approached to play the role. Who knows. It's unlikely Blofeld will return because the producers - Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson - spent the last two Bond films creating a new evil organization called QUANTUM. Blofeld was head of SPECTRE so it would seem strange to disregard QUANTUM and reintroduce SPECTRE and Blofeld.

Also, when you consider the producers removed Q and Moneypenny from Craig's Bond films - and they were very much part of the Bond films - it's very unlikely they would bring back SPECTRE. Craig's Bond films are about reinventing Bond, not harking back to the earlier Bond films.

How about Michael Sheen playing another Bond villain? It doesn't have to be Blofeld. I'm sure he'd be great casting, he's a very versatile actor.

Hit the nail on the head there Floopy. QUANTUM is the new evil organisation.

Well if he does play a villain, I hope he plays a more chilling one than Jonathan Pryce's thinly disguised Murdoch/Maxwell character.
