would it be possible to make android run activex controls? i have no idea what would be involved, so i just thought i'd ask. main reason being that i have a networked dvr for my security cameras on my home. to view online, you need to install an activex control, which my current cell phone cannot do. nor do i know of any that can. if it was possible, i guess i would need the maker of the dvr to develop it,correct? just curious. thanks.
 
ActiveX -- just say no.

If you're buying into an Android device (an open OS/API), you definitely shouldn't be wanting to cripple and encumber it with a closed technology, which ActiveX is (proprietary Microsoft junk).
 
i run activex controls on my pc. as long as they're from something i say ok to, i've never had a problem with them. and if you know how to remove them, no biggie. i have a backup anyways-my dvr sends motion detect images to my gmail! let's just hope android can open them. winmo's mail client wouldn't let me. not sure why,they're just jpg's. i had to save them to sd card.
 
ActiveX is only for windows and is proprietary to microsoft. If Microsoft can't even get it to run on WinMo there is basically no chance of it being able to run on Android.

ActiveX controls are specific to the processor, so an ActiveX control that works on a PC will not work on a phone. It requires the manufacturer to compile the control specifically for the OS on the phone as well as for the processor.

Are the "reps" on the backburner now or the "points" uga.buga was talking about. To me it seems reps and "points" are two different things, because I was never able to find the "Point's Per Day" he was talking about by looking at my profile, while the reps button still seems to be working:

you could hook your dvr to a network video server, but you would only see the video feed. you'd have no access to the controls,settings etc.
panasonic has some ip cams that don't require activex,but they're pretty expensive. i have a couple of cheaper ipcams laying here,but they require activex. i also have a 1 port video server,but,like i said, you will only get the feed and it also requires....you guessed it...activex.my ultimate solution is to view my security cams on cell phone without activex and without needing to have the pc running. there are a couple dvr's that do it, but i didn't like the features. i'll stop here, this is supposed to be about android. head over to some surveillance forums if you're truly interested. peace
 
I just found your thread because I had the same question - Active X controls on Android for viewing a CCTV DVR. Looks like it won't happen, but thought I'd mention something very cool anyway. Check out Mobotix IP cameras - they're web access doesn't rely on ActiveX - they stream to my HTC Hero perfectly.
 
i've since bought a geovision dvr card for my pc and switched to a touch pro 2 cell phone. geo makes an app to view cams on winmo cell phones. they are supposedly making an app for android(or,so i was told)but we might not see it for a long time. if they ever do, i'll eventually switch back to the android platform. but in the meantime, i like seeing what's going on around my house while i'm away.
 
Hello! good is that your post is old but I am with the same problem as you, I have a samsun DVR 8 cameras and I can not see through the cameras Andor by the activex problem only asks me username and password .. I gustartia saver if you found any solution to your problem She thanks you lot since I am new at this
