I'm a longtime Alltel customer that got migrated. My wife has a Moto Q that is hosed (she let our baby suck on it) so I need to get her a new phone. We don't need or want data plan on her phone, but she likes QWERTY and PDA abilities. I have $30 data plan on my phone because I use it a lot. I want to get her an HTC Ozone or something similar off eBay.
I've been buying our phones off eBay for a while due to forced data/smartphone plans, but last ones were while we were still Alltel. I know you can activate phones online on the VZW website, but I see some comments/rumors on various forums about a data plan just showing up on the bill or being forced into it if you end up having to call in to activate. Can anyone confirm this or make recommendations? I'm not dead set on HTC Ozone, but it would be nice to have wifi and still let her sync with our Exchange server wirelessly. I just don't want to shell out another $360/year for a service we won't use.
