Activating a Non-Cricket Phone

I'm confused so can someone please help me? The sticky of Cricket FAQ's above states that Cricket allows you to use any cdma phone on their network. However, the FAQ's on Cricket's website state that to use Cricket service you must own a Cricket phone. So which is it? Do I have to buy a Cricket phone or can I activate my Verizon Razr on Cricket? Thanks.

you can activate your verizon razr on cricket if you load the correct PRL. i'm not familiar with cdma motorola so you'll have to find a guide or get someone to write one. :)

So then the sticky above isn't correct? Because my understanding is that I'd have to have Cricket load the PRL and it doesn't sound like they'll do that but the sticky above makes it sound like they will.

no, they will not support the non branded phone.
it would be your responsibility to have the phone functional for their network prior to attempting to activate it.

once it is properly flashed and ready to go, then activating it is no problem. you can even do it over the phone with them.

I have been told by 611, that they will not take foreign ESN's over the phone. Flashed phones must be activated thru a Cricket store.

If you tell them you have a cricket v3 razr, i don't believe it matters what the ESN is. they will activate it. just tell them your friend gave you the phone.

Ok. Here is what it is.

You Can activate ANY CDMA phone that will work with them (I think you have to have it flashed first. But i could be wrong) Cricket will not accept the foreign ESN over the phone, So you must go into a Cricket store and they will do it. If your changing the ESN on an existing line of service than you must pay the 15.00 ESN Change fee. Cricket's FAQ says that you must purchase a cricket phone but you actually dont. Its just not advertised that you can use any CDMA provider's phone for legal reasons.

I activated a foreign esn about two weeks ago. Planning on doing another one tomorrow or the next day since my original xv6700 some how fell under the swing of a hammer I just happened to be wielding. FYI.

i activated my foreign ESN over the telephone. if you mean non cricket by foreign. bought a enV on ebay, put a prl on it, and called cricket and activated it. took less than 20 minutes.

i started my account with a flashed v262.
few months later, i added a line with a kx440

both times, i did it over the phone.

the only thing is, a flashed phone will usually not OTA program, especially the first time, you either have to know how to do it yourself, or know a comparible model for them to walk you thru it.

this was over a year ago for both, it might have changed.

This is one but many prime examples of what I'm talking about, you write something about it, sticky it and you will still have to answer to it. They should take the time to research in it a little bit. The sticky is there to answer the most common asked question yet they continue to make up new threaRAB about something that had been answered, of course crickets FAQ will not state that they can activate any CDMA phone because thats just it they can't.

They WILL though activate any CDMA phone that has already been FLASHED, REPROGRAMED, UNLOCKED for the cricket network, they will not LOAD the PRL on the phone for you, that is something you will either

A) Pay for to have done by someone who knows what there doing. AKA Company ;) one like my self or many others out there.
B) Search look around plenty of information on the internet and do it your self if you wish to risk a phone.
C) Buy or purchase a cricket phone if you do not want to do A, or B.

You dont even have to tell them what brand or kind of phone it is, when they ask what model of phone it is stat CPE *Customer Provided Equipment* this is a well known term that is widely used with the cricKet industry now.

Hissss!!! I guess since you didn't like my thread you didn't have to respond. I was only asking because the FAQ's were confusing to me, it seemed to give conflicting information. So maybe now that the wording in the FAQ's has been changed you won't get these bothersome threaRAB started anymore.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

I am running into the same issue. I want to flash my 6265i I know how to flash it with NSS and NSU however, does the phone need to be unlocked or will flashing the phone with a new product code allow it to be changed from Cricket to Metro PCS in Atlanta.
