ACT or SAT? Which test should I take?

My Mom wants me to retake the ACT to see if I can get a higher score. I have to begin applying for colleges in the fall and I know they will take higher scores after you have applied but I was wondering if maybe I should take the SAT instead since Im also planning on applying to out of state colleges. My ACT score is decent but not "scholarship material" as my aunt would say.

So.... which one?
