ACT for Palm

I just purchased a used "T" and ACT 6 for my PC, which included ACT for Palm. I had some trouble lsynching the Palm, had to download the latest driver for my XP machine. Now thte Palm portion works just fine. I had some trouble with the ACT software as well. Now there are portions of that program that just don't work right. I've reloaded the software on the PC from the ACT CD and synched it but it comes up the same. The monthly calendar works but the weekly calendar goes into a "loading" mode and locks up. Also the "tasks" portion causes a default. There are other scattered problems, like the touch screen goes wonky in this program, then gets "fixed". Can I just do a hard reset and re-synch everything?

A hard reset followed by a resync will just load back in the same programs with the same problems.

Do a hard reset, then on the pc rename your user backup file (c:\program files\palm\User name or SR\backup to backup old.

This will save the programs that are in there. Then resync. The device will be void of any programs. Then - load in the Act version of Palm and all other programs one at a time.

Palm units don't like a lot of programs being loaded at the same time because it confuses the Preference file which can result in errant behaviour you describe.

I use Maximizer for my contact management application, so I am not familiar with Act! on the Palm, but I can tell you my experiences with Maxmizer and MaxLink. Compatability seemed more dependent upon which model of Palm I had rather than which version of Maximizer I was using. Maximizer and MaxLink worked fine on my Palm V, m505, and Tungsten T. With the T3, I had to downlaod and install a MaxLink patch for things to work correctly. It was not because of the T3's stretch screen, because that same patch is also required for the Zire, Zire 21, Tungsten E, Tungsten T2, and Treo 600, none of which have stretch screens. With my Treo 650, there is a second patch that had to be downloaded and installed. That 2nd patch was also required for the Zire 31, Zire 72, Tungsten E2, Tungsten T5, and LifeDrive.

I would suggest going to Act!'s web site and checking Support and/or Downloads for any new versions or patches specific to your system; i.e. for your Tungsten T, Act! Version 6, Act for Palm OS, and your PC's operating system. I did a quick search there and found the following:

"The ACT! for Palm OS 1.0.1 free update is now available via download for current ACT! for Palm customers. This release now supports Palm OS 5 and users with PDA phones can call contacts directly from ACT! for any phone number."

Hope this helps.

Did the Palm Download thing and it worked fine. Apparently I needed a patch, or upgrade for ACT 6 and OS 5. Works good now. I'm a bit afraid to add any additional software for fear of lousing it up though.

I'm glad to hear it solved the problem. ... There should not be any problems with installing additional 3rd party applications. Like most other members of this board, I have a lot of apps on my T3 and Treo 650 and the apps all live happily together.
