Hi

I am nearly 24 and first suffered from acne when I was 12, & they were pretty severe from 15-19 yrs old. In the last few years I have had them under control with the use of the pill- Diane 35.

My problem is that some acne scars on both sides of my jawline have become raised, hard, pink lumps. They are about 2 cm big, some smaller. They are only on my jaw. I have had them for about 6 years now, but I havent heard of or seen anyone with this problem.

I saw a derm 2 years ago & he said that they are really common & people come in just about every day to his clinic with them. I am not convinced. Can anyone please let me know if they have the same thing as me?? As far as I could understand, it is scar tissue that has healed abnormally (maybe its cos they are on the edge of my jaw & the curve of the bone makes healing more difficult)

Anyway at the time he treated me on around 4 occassions with steroid injections into the lumps. They flattened out & they were looking better for about a year, but still had a pink/red colour. However in the last 6 months I have noticed that the lumps have gotten bigger again, maybe even bigger than before. I guess I will go back and get more injections. They are unsightly but I have trouble booking appointments.

If anyone has had the same condition, can you let me know how you treat them & whether they keep growing back??? I'm not sure if the steroid injections are the answer.

Thanks!

They are called keloid scars. I have one on my shoulder blade. Sucks! The doctor tried injecting steriod into it, but it didnt work, he said it may not and it may take several treatments....that was the first thing to try, I don't know what he had in mind after.
