A great way to treat and prevent acne for teenage girls (and possibly adult women) is to start birth control. Acne is oftentimes a cause of hormonal changes, some birth control can help to balance and control these changes.

My experience has been with oral birth control (specifically Ortho-triclen-lo), which I have been on for a little over two years now. From age 13 to 17, I pretty much had regular breakouts and persistent acne, but after starting birth control I pretty much never break out and have clear skin :D Woo!

I have found that birth control is very effective in preventing acne as well. I was on Orthotricyclen (regular not the low dose) for 6 years and I decided to go off of it because I didn't like the hormonal side effects-mistake because my face started to break out after going off the pill so now I am seriously considering going back on it because I like how clear it makes my face when I'm on it!!!
