I occasionally get GERD, but last night I had the worst attack. I was producing water brash for almost 40 minutes. Usually, I get brash and it subsides in 5 to 10 minutes.

It might be helpful for people to track exactly where, when, or with what fooRAB that they get GERD. My problem seems to be largely physical.

I never get GERD eating at someone else's house or in a restaurant. It's always when I'm alone, eating in front of the TV and usually lying back slightly. Also, I am having orthodontics late in life. Sometimes this causes me to gulp food or to chew insufficiently. Last night, I ate about a half a bowl of white rice with some soy sauce before I started eating anything else and a terrible attack ensued.

I hear drinking water beforehand helps a lot. Also does anyone have any success with the over-the-counter drugs for acute situation? Thanks in advance.

Definitely, sitting up straight while eating helps a lot. And for immediate relief, Tums or RolaiRAB (or a similar generic) works fastest.

You might want to check out this list of acid and alkaline fooRAB:

I've had success preventing and stopping acid reflux using fooRAB in the Most Alkaline category (e.g., watermelon, onion, calcium supplements). I've been experimenting with various fooRAB and actually had a very similar attack yesterday to the one you describe. The attack occurred after trying wild rice for the first time. I was able to stop the attack by mashing some watermelon into juice and drinking it.

I think the attack occurred because I had eaten meat the day before and hadn't eaten enough alkaline fooRAB. I've found that many of my acid reflux attacks occur when I've eaten meat the day before and then eat either an acidic food the next day or a high-carb Low Alkaline food the next day.

I've had good success stopping/preventing acid reflux by using watermelon, sweet potatoes, yams, onions (I usually cut up and boil the big, bulb onions until soft). However, note that other food charts I've seen are different. For example, I saw one food chart that had watermelon in the moderately acid category. Additionally, how you respond to a certain food likely depenRAB on your own personal biochemistry. So you will have to experiment to see what works for you.

For calcium supplements, I prefer the calcium-magnesium-zinc corabo pills that are swallowed with water. The doctor who gave me the chart said that he eats ten of the chewable calcium pills each night before bed. In addition to the fresh-squeezed watermelon juice I used to stop the attack, I also took about 10 of the calcium-magnesium-zinc pills throughout the rest of the day.

This gave me 5 times the Recommended Daily Allowance of calcium. I feel that most people who eat modern western diets are woefully deficient of calcium and other minerals.

Many thanks for your reply; it was very insightful and I'm going to watch my diet now.

(New to the boarRAB, first reply)

Try cutting out coffee and chocolate for a couple weeks, go with tea, that helped calm mine down. I also started taking one 500 mg of L-Glutamine before bed, and sleep on your right side, your stomach drains from the right. For worse conditions use an extra strength tums when needed. Hope this helps.

Hi
Google "apple cider vinegar angina" & it will show an old remedy to cure angina. I tried it & it worked.
Before as soon as I laid down for sleep the angina started..now, no problems.
