Have you had any pH testing done? It would confirm if you are dealing with acid reflux or not.

I also had a Modified Barium Swallow and Esophagram which showed more detail of what is happening in my digestive system from the chewing and swallowing to how the food was moving through my stomach.

Hi PD,

I'm so glad you updated us! Thank you.

I don't know your age but I think you are fairly young. Stop worrying so much! :)

Your ultra sound was normal which means your gall bladder, etc., is normal and the gastroscope was normal also. That's GREAT!

Your symptoms started 20 days ago. It's extremely unlikely that you would develop damage to your stomach and esophagus in such a short time. It isn't that unusual to have symptoms and have 'normal' test results.

If you continue to worry, you WILL end up with erosion, inflammation, ulcers, etc. I speak from personal experience. :(

While you are still young, watch your diet and eliminate the things that causes irritation. Learn to let go of worry, use good common sense in all matters and let your higher power handle things you cannot change.

I'm happy to tell you that my ulcers are completely gone along with the inflammation in the stomach and esophagus. The esophageal dilation went well and my coughing symptoms are completely gone. I will need dilation again in the future but we're hoping adhesion will have mercy on me and not cause too much constriction too soon.

I will be on Pepcid Complete 40mg AM and 20mg PM for life as this will prevent future ulcers according to my doctor. As for GERD, it's a life long issue.

I would suggest you research PPIs and H2 blockers. Take an active part in managing your health, especially regarding the medicines you're prescribed.

Read the post here regarding acid reflux and meRAB. Rosebloom is very knowledgeable. You might want to read her posts.

Good luck and God bless!

Kindest regarRAB,
Annie

do you feel like you are going to have a heart attack? I have a hiatal hernia and some acid reflux. i have such indigestion i can't stand it. i have pain in betweenal the shoulder blades and in the upper stomach under the rib cage and some in the chest. Also some difficulty breathing. What about you? LaLa

Could this also be what I am suffering from. I have burning sensation on my right abdomen which radiates to my back.Looking for something to make it better. I am totally exhausted.

I was on Zegerid 40mg daily from Feb to July. I took Mylanta when I felt a bit of indigestion. When I was/am nauseated, I grab a Brach's Peppermint candy and it works for me. I understand some people can't tolerate peppermint.

Regarding diet, I eat pretty much everything except fat. I don't eat any fat except what's in ultra lean meats...and very little of that. I've eaten mostly plant based food for the past 15 years.

The best way to find out what you can eat is to keep a log. I kept a mental log and came to the conclusion fats was my culprit.

I forgot to tell you that I do have a "tiny" hiatal hernia. It isn't a problem as long as I take my time eating. I'm usually gulping down food as I am a busy body! LOL! So I have to force myself to eat slowly now.

Take care!

Blessings,
Annie

I also used to have acid reflux. It got so bad it burned my throat to the point I could hardly talk. I finally realized that if I cut back on the carbohydrates (I used to be a bread-a-holic) that the acid reflux disappeared. I found a list of fooRAB that produce acid and stay away from those. Eating a piece of raw brocolli usually stops it if I over indulge in the carbos.

Hi Purity
Good Luck on your appointment. Yes I have Ultrasound and my gall bladder was okay also spleen, liver and pancreas and ovary was okay.Ihave only one ovary left. My situation is worst at night than in day time.Last night I did not sleep at all so I walked into a nearby walk in clinic today to see if i could get any kind of help. The doctor told me to go see my regular doctor since he is the one who did all these tests. i told him I had to use a walk in because my doctor wasn't working on monday as he works only 2 days a week. So waiting to make an appointment to see my family doctor. I was found to have h.pylori though and was treated so don't know if it is still the pylori causing problems.

Thanks for your reply...I've tried stopping dairy, this is now week 2...feel alittle better and then it hits again out of nowhere. Soon as I feel the burning, the tears fall as I am so hoping thta every morning when I get up its gone. I had my ultrsound last week and am awaiting results, I pray all goes well with that. Its terrible living with this fear of all the horrid things it can be, worse when you think you are taking such good care of yourself and after 12 weeks you are still no further ahead. I know I need to stop pitying muself and concentrating on it, my huband says I need to start living again instread of living this nightmare of whats going on. Ohhh I know there are people out there with far worse things going on and I try to concentrate on that but I cannot understand why I am not getting better, why I can't eat normal, enjoy an occassional drink, .....through reading the posts I know I am not alone but feel so alone. I am such a worrier...thanks so much for taking the time to snd an email, it is so much appreciated.....Hugs

if you have a bile gallbladder problem you have an optoin to stay on a low fat semi bland diet or surgery.

some fritos are high in fat. go eat low fat food and if you feel ok then go eat a high fat thing. the hida scan mimics a high fat meal and test your gb function. if you eat high fat food and you feel sick... you have your answers.

google acid related asthma. an ent can do a simple scope thing in your throat and for many it gurgled back up slowly and back into the lungs. do you cough a lot does your throat hurt? try some throat spray for the spasm and drink water asap slowly. prevacid helps as it shuts down the acid in your stomache not just masking or absorbing as mylanta does.

no ph testing or barium, perhaps these tests would be beneficial. I feel terrible today, I had cereal for breakfast and chicken with mashed potatoes for lunch, it tasted bland to me and I feel so tired today plus the odd mild ache has been bothering me all day, the one in my left upper bsck, it's off to the side not in the center, what is that???? I hate whatever this is...

Hi Everyone:

I think my situation is a little different then everybody else. I have severe indigestion all day and some discomfort in the middle of my back in between the shoulder blades and in the upper stomach near around the hiatal hernia. No heartburn, Just a lump that starts in the throat and goes all the way down to the upper stomach. I also have a problem getting a cleansing breath. Feel like i am going to have a heart attack. I don't know which dr to go to first. A gastro dr or a lung dr. I am so tired of feeling sick. If it is not one problem, it is another. I am on three different boarRAB. One for lyme, (might have-being tested) and peri-meno. I am a mess. From head to toe. Literally. Any answers? LaLa

I felt the same way when my reflux suddenly and violently occured. And I was on a sailing trip in a foreign country and terrified of being away from land when this happened. I had no idea what it was. I've learned that everybody thinks it's something more serious than it is, like heart problems or cancer. Go get all the tests like everybody else here has gotten, and you'll be reassured. It may take a few weeks or more to get all the results, but in the meantime try taking magnesium supplements, a once-a-day antacid, and a liquid like Pepto or Gaviscon to treat in between, and keep a log of what you eat and drink and when the problems get worse, and you'll probably connect the dots soon. Don't worry, you're not doing to die.

Hang in there, Blues2. I know it's hard, but, like your husband said, try not to think about it too much, just try to do the best you can from day to day. Try to avoid your major triggers, but don't obsess over food. Until things improve, you may have symptoms no matter what you eat, and you have to eat.

Magnesium Supplement is helping me a little bit. Its not totally over. Iam also watching my diet.

i have the same thing,my doctors say doxycycline can inflamme the esophagus and breathing tubes.i had to stop taken doxy.

Thank you all for your replies and annie for your well wishes.....endoscopy tomorrow.........

Would you share that list of fooRAB to avoid? I'm ok on oatmeal, bland soups, jello, grilled chicken breast, jello and fruit like watermelon and cantaloupe! This is far from my usual diet of eggs, bacon, salaRAB with dressing, burgers, fries, spicy fooRAB, diet coke! Oh, and pizza! I can't touch any of it anymore, the burning that it brings on with it radiating to my back is awful! Along with occasional diarrhea, especially if I have salad with ranch dressing! The funny thing is they found nothing in my endoscopy and biopsy was normal, no evidence of disease! Next, HIDA scan on wednesday.

Which fooRAB trigger acid reflux varies from person to person. To some extent, it'll be trial and error.

For you, it sounRAB like the high-fat, fried, acidic (especially tomato) or spicy fooRAB may be the bad ones. Also avoid soda or things with lots of sugar.

Eggs: Try hard-boiling them and just eat the white. Beef might be ok for you in smaller portions, try and see. Salad: cut way back on that dressing, and avoid the tomatoes. Fruit: Nothing sour or acidic. Berries can be a problem for me.

Some people swear that starch is bad, but I find plain starches such as bread or unsweetened cereal are the easiest way to get calories down without irritating my digestive system. Some people have problems with dairy. I imagine these are the people who have some degree of lactose intolerance. I tell you right now, if I gave up grains and dairy when my stomach was acting up, I would be living on plain water.

Anjiell:
You must have been on doxy for a long time for that to have happened. Why were you taking doxy? Just wondering because lots of people with Lyme take doxy. I am being tested for lyme and waiting for the results because of all different symptoms i have been having for a long time now. I suffer with a great deal of indigestion. It seems to be chronic. Nothing helps and it does not matter what I eat. I can eat really healthy and have it and I can eat bad food and have it. I also suffer with chest pains and pains in my back and in the pit of the stomach. I have a hiatal hernia which is probably why i get such discomfort. I sometimes feel that I am having a heart attack. Then i get scared and go into a panic. Take care and i hope you are better being off of the doxy. lala

magnesuim? Really! I am desperate for relief, I will try this. Are you taking it in tablet form?
