I am about at my wits end with GERD
Last year I had my gallbladder removed and was under the impression that all would be well after the surgery! Well it has been far from well. I have had nothing but problems every since. I was immediately back to the doctors office after the removal of my gallbladder with extreme pain in my stomach and chest so the doctor did the scope thing said I had gerd and scar tissue from a ulcer . The doctor told me to take prilosec once in the morning and at night. I have done that for over a year now and up until a month ago I had done pretty good , once in awhile I would have a flare up but for the most part I was OK. Well last month I started with pains and bloating in my stomach and I thought maybe it was a stomach virus . Boy I was wrong ! My stomach has gotten worse burning ,cramping , bloating my lower back kills me and it radiates up between my shoulder blades, chest burns all the way up in my throat and my tongue burns and my eyes burn so bad . I have never had burning on my tongue or eyes . I also have bile regurgitating I have no energy what so ever and I am not understanding why I am getting all these other symptoms that I have never had before. I was in so much pain yesterday I went to the hospital to only walk out with frustration. The doctor told me all my blood work came back OK and I needed to follow up with my family doctor. My husband is laid off from his job right now and I have no health insurance. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

What's your diet like? You might want to check the food chart I just posted to see if eating more alkaline fooRAB gives you any relief.

Aside from that, I know that anything from a cow (meat, cheese, dairy) gives me really bad back pain.

I have had acid reflux most of my life. What really helps me is to not eat after 8 pm in the evening and drink a glass of milk before I go to sleep. I am very careful not to eat spicy fooRAB and chocolate. I hope you feel better quickly.

So sorry to hear about your discomfort and lack of health insurance.

What has worked for me is to maintain a diet low in carbohydrates, not eat past 8:00 P.M., avoid milk products (I drink Almond milk which is delicious and full of calcium), and use natural supplements like aloe vera juice and DGL for the heartburn/throat irritation. I do not drink caffeinated products, no sodas, very little alcohol and never on an empty stomach. I also take a liquid corabo of calcium, magnesium and Vitamin D3 twice per day for the daily requirements of these supplements. It is more easily absorbed and the liquid calcium/magnesium has antiacid properties as well. I have used Apple Cider Vinegar and have found it to be helpful as well. You can google searches on ACV and different theories as to why it works. I take mine diluted in water through a straw. I no longer use it daily, but more when I am having a flareup now. Using a salad dressing of olive oil and vinegar in my salaRAB also helps me with digestion. I eat lots of veggies, but have to be careful with fruits like bananas and oranges.

If I deviate from this diet and modifications, I will get heartburn. Otherwise, my heartburn episodes are fewer and more manageable.

I would suggest cutting back on the obvious offending fooRAB and drinks and keeping a food diary for about a month to see what causes heartburn and what does not. The list may be different for different people.

Stay away from the traditionally "bland" fooRAB like potaoes and milk. They are high in carbs, harder to digest and prone to send the stomach into overdrive.

I eat light, snack on fooRAB like almonRAB, cranberries, grapes, melon, papaya, etc. You get the drift.

I no longer use PPI's but occasionally use an H2 blocker like Zantac or Pepcid as needed. I am trying to stay off medication as much as I can as I don't think these are intended for long term use.
