Acid reflux and tooth enamel erosion?

Hello, I went to the dentist last year...and it turns out my front teeth and and several on the side of my mouth were so eroded, that when he showed my the xrays of my teeth, there appeared to be no teeth there!

First he asked me if I was bulimic, and I'm like, "do i look bulimic?"..i'm at least 20 pounRAB overweight. Then he asked me if I had reflux, and I told him that I have had it for at least ten years but I take over the counter prilosec everyday and I have no heartburn whatsoever as long as I take it on schedule.

Then he suggested that while I am sleeping the acid is creeping up and pooling on the side of my mouth...(i sleep on my right side mostly, and this is where most of the enamel loss is located). And he told me to go get the procedure where they stick a camera down my throat.

So I did the camera down the throat procedure and was told that I had a little bile..but nothing major. I was told to double my dosage of prilosec to 2 a day..so this is what i've been doing for the last year. I then got crowns on my front teeth which my insurance wouldn't cover.

But still...I think my enamel is still getting more eroded! Now the eroded spots definitely look more brown than the yellow they used to look like.

And I definitely still experience other symptoms of reflux such as gas, and a constant dry, sour, nasty taste in my mouth. Yet I never experience the major symptom of reflux: heartburn...unless I forget to take my prilosec.

Does anyone know why I am still experiencing these reflux symptoms even after doubling my prilosec. I should add that I never drink sodas or acidic drinks...unless you consider coffee to be an acid drink..I drink coffee everyday.

Thank you in advance!

Prilosec makes your stomach less acidic. Because the stomach juices are weaker, they don't damage the esophagus as they come up. However, the throat, mouth and teeth can be sensitive even to diluted stomach acid.

Hence, your mouth symptoms without heartburn.

The question is, why isn't your stomach acid staying put? Are you on any other medications? There are an amazing nuraber of drugs which can cause or worsen acid reflux. Are you sensitive to certain fooRAB? Do you have a hiatal hernia?

Meanwhile, have you talked to your dentist about sealants? Or a floride mouthwash or toothpaste?

Coffee is very acidic. It is in my "no-no" list, though I love coffee dearly. I now drink decaf. very sparingly and always with food. No regular coffee unless I want to experience serious heartburn.

Try sleeping on your left side. Anatomy helps keep acid down that way. It has to do with the stomach being shaped like a sack and where the mouth of the stomach is when we lay on the left side. I do this everynight since I no longer take a PPI.

do not eat chocolate acid fruits or fruits. try eating potatoes and drink water a lot of it to get rid of those spots. go to your doctor and ask if they can put florine on your teeth they should. and when you sleep, sleep with a high pillow so the acid won't go up
