I have been dealing with burning and throbbing in my throat now for 2 years. Everyday my throat hurts. I have tried everything. I NEVER GET HEARTBURN but burp a lot and my throat hurts after doing that. Most the week, the pain is outta control. I got some tests done. Had the motility study done and they found an absence of waves, but then had the swallow done a few days later only to be told that there first test must have been the equipment that maybe failed. That test was horrible for me not sure I can go through it again. Then I get the ph test done. Had 53 episodes of reflux all standing. none while laying down. Doctors say I am normal. How can I be normal. I have been refluxing prob around that everyday for two years. I don't know what to do. I know if I could get rid of the pain I could have a great life, but the pain makes me not want to be here.
Any body have these issues...Help

Have you been provided with any type of treatment yet? Any medication? Some people experience heartburn, others throat irritation. Have you tried any remedies, any diet modifications? Have you kept a food diary to see what you are reacting to? I have discovered through trial and error that fooRAB that may be good for many are not so for me. For example, green tea and bananas give me heartburn. Those are two great fooRAB I have had to (sadly) give up. It took me a long time to start getting the bull by the horns and trying to get some type of control over my reflux, but I was miserable until I began to take a more active role in discovering what was exactly going on with me.

It sounRAB like you are experiencing a great deal of discomfort and pain right now and that makes one's life miserable.

In my own experience, the symptoms come and go, but in order to have fewer and less intense episodes, I have had to drastically modify my diet and avoid many offending fooRAB.

I am not sure what treatments you have had and/or what modifications you have tried yet to get rid of the pain.

Maybe if you can post about what you have tried and what has and has not worked for you, we can provide you with more specific feedback.

Hope you feel better very soon.

Dj101,

My speech therapist gave me a soothing remedy for the sore throat that comes along with LPR.

First you want to loosen any mucous in your throat by breathing in some steam. Then follow the steps below:

In an 8 oz glass mix warm water (as warm as you can stand it)

1/2 tsp of baking soda

1 tsp salt

2 heaping tsp of clear Karo syrup

stir all together and gargle/spit with this mixture 3 times a day for 7 days to help reduce redness and irritation.

It worked great on my throat which is now swollen and irritated again, so I need to start gargling once more.

Hope it helps!

Well I am new at this, as I had no idea that I had acid problem that was being confused with bad allergy and asthma...they now say, no asthma...I do have allergies though...

I had mucus stuck in my throat, and had a barium swallow test a couple weeks ago, and since that test, my acid had become worse....it made the symptoms worse....the doctor told me during the test that he did not see any reflux....but I know I have it because I had experienced some sensation now and then....but not enough to think it was serious..

what I learned by my pulmonologist who ordered the test to rule out asthma was the test showed a schatskis ring and hiatial hernia....I had been told that vocal cord closing up was or could be why I had trouble breathing and swallowing...

This has what has helped me in the last 24 hours....I read on here about using vinegar and aloe vera juice...well the vinegar seemed to make it worse...but the aloe vera juice has done wonders for my throat since buying it yesterday....when I drink it, it allows the acid apparently that is in the esophagus to allow the mucus buildup to go down....and not having the feeling of choking or not being able to breath since I used it....I am also using pepcid AC as well...Zantac wasn't helping

If I can keep this up till I see the GI doctor next week, it will be a blessing...I know what you mean when you say your throat feels that way....this aloe vera juice has made my sore throat go away as well....not sure if you have used it yet...but if you haven't it might be worth a try...

I got mine at Walgreen for about $12 for a jug of it.....I do believe the barium can irritate things even worse as it did for me....until I got this juice I had lost my appetite for a few days and felt like I could not eat but a few ounces at a time....I wouldn't be surprised that I had an ulcer...but won't know that till further testing....

Well, the problem here is that for some reason, the LES is letting acid out of the stomach back out into the esophagus. Why that is no one knows. There is a reason it weakens and there are also a myriad of reasons why you'd have overproduction of acid in the stomach. We'd need a lot more details to make any real meaningful suggestions.

Yes SureBett, Aloe Vera juice is great for acid reflux because of the salicylic acid it has in the juice. I think, but don't hold me to it, that this acid is in the gel and the juice.

Wow. Lots of great people offering advice. Thanks

I have changed my diet a lot of ways over the years and have tried all the different meRAB and nothing has worked even a little bit. Mine is getting to the point that I am just trying to keep going for my parents. I am a radio dj and really love what I do, but whatever is going on is making it almost impossible. I can't even remeraber what it is like to have no throat pain. Most days it is unbearable. This sucks...
