ok here my story. about a month ago, i got bad heartburn so i took some antacid. i think i took too much for discomfort, but not that many i think. little did i realize that the stuckness feeling in my chest was due to low stomach acid.

i been trying different stuff. heard some stuff called Betaine Hydrochloride aka hcl suppose to help but ddidn't work that well for me. heard honey helps. cold water for raising acid level and hot for lowering. didn't work that well for me either.

then i heard spice kills the toughest of indigestion. been using this.

anybody got similiar experience. how long you suppose to do this till my digestive system return to normal?

Hi LL37, Thanks so much for your information. I tried ACV too, but it didn't work on me. My LPR worsend by the PPI was true, but there were two possible mechnisms: acid level lowered by the PPI, and the digestion system was disordered by it...

I would like to discuss with you about your theory of "sufficient acid makes the sphincter closed tight". I guess you mean that certain level of acid makes the sphicter shut, right? The 2-3 ACV tablets are just as good to make it shut? GERD patients have too high levels of acid? It seems to me it is hard to measure.

There is another theory about low acid caused LPR, which says low acid leaves undigested food in the stomach for a longer time, which generates gas and the gas goes up to the larynx and damage it. I don't know what kind of gas can damage the larynx.

I never felt I had too much acid before and after the LPR occured. And I had strong stomach at those times. Only after taking the PPI, it was worsened. The LPR bothers my voice and throat only during the daytime and usually 1-2 hours after meals. I don't feel any liquid things go up to the throat. Therefore, I am thinking about the undigested food and the gaseious thing theory...

Yes you are losing me with all of the acronyms, please < edited > tell me what all of the letters you are using to refer to things are.

< edited > there are many that discuss low stomach acid and it being the causes of reflux.

I've been Betadine HCL for about 5 months for the same reason. Your question is some what vague. Please explain more symptoms, do you have a bad taste that comes up into your mouth? Or are you only working with indigestion down below? I suspect if you are still have reflux, with bad taste, you didn't take enough Betaine HCL fast enough at meals to stop the reflux at each meal(this can be tricky), and you need to limit dosages of liquiRAB at different times because they dilute the acid keeping the sphinctor closed!

ACV - Apple Cider Vinegar
LPR - LaryngoPharyngeal Reflux
GERD - GastroEsophagus Reflux Disease

LL37, how do you explain that low acid causes GERD or LPR?

Look up Low stomach acid and reflux, there will be several sites that describe how low stomach acid makes the les quit closing on you, since it's acid sensitive!

My LPR got worse by taking the PPI for 20 days. I guess it is not caused by too much acid. I am thinking it is caused by too little acid. But how to be sure? You said you realized your reflux was caused by low acid, how to be sure?

If it was because of low acid, you may try Acidophilus, which is available at nutrition stores. Also you may try Vitamin B12 at the same time. You may need to consult your physician or pharmacist if you are taking any other meRAB.

Hi LL37, you are more experience. Could you tell me in more detail on how to self diagnose LOW STOMACK ACID? Thanks!

What I did to try it at first was just stop antiaciRAB or proton pump inhibitors and took 2-3 apple cidar vinegar pills at the end of a meal thus raising the acid levels in mys tomach and waited to see if my reflux just stopped all together because my sphinctor closed by sensingthe increased acid levels. And it worked! Acidoph. and other suppliments won't necessarily get the stomach to just magically start makind acid again. I'm now on niacin and high b12 doses and am working to add A and E vitamins into my body again, I had no idea I likely had such nutrition depleation that was contribuiting to my stomach quitting like that. It's kind of like the chicken or the egg, did the malnutrition/lack of vitamin digestion happen after the acid quit being produced thus making it worse and worse(snow ball rolling down hill). From what I've read it sounRAB like it, and what they say about our american diets/processed fooRAB is true, it lacks so much nutrition! The RDA's were designed to stop soldiers from getting severely ill in the field.(but that's another story). I'd recommend if you can afford it, having a naturopath try you on HCL under their care and give them all symptoms you have!
