'Taners... Okay... I know only a handful of you are out there because most of you have been successful, but I need some information on when this god awful acne will start clearing!

I am on 80mg a day and have been for two months.
Some areas have improved while others have gotten worse. When do you typically see results?

Tell me about you? What was your dosage and when did you start seeing results?

This is my daughter's timeframe on Accutane: she started with 60 mgs in early Septeraber; after one month was raised to 80 mgs. She broke out something awful and the increase did not improve it. But we stuck with it. Even though her skin and lips dried up, her face continued to break out. It wasn't until after Christmas that she really started to show improvement, but there was still an occasional breakout. Even though she was scheduled to stop treatment in January, the doctor bumped her up to 100 mgs for an additional month. She goes back tomorrow; he may decide to go one more month, but that will be it.

The bottom line? Her face is not "flawless" but it is so much better than before Accutane. I just saw a video taken on Christmas Day and the difference is dramatic, even though she may still have a pimple here and there. Plus the red marks that remain make her face look like it is still breaking out, but those will fade.

Don't get discouraged. Some people may get instant results with Accutane but you may not be one of them. I guess I'm just wondering now what happens when she stops taking it next month, since it has not yet cleared up 100%. But we will see.

Month 1 & 2 I was on 40 mg, month 3 I was on 60mg, month 4 I was on 80 mg, month 5-7 I was on 100mg.

Around month 3 was when my acne started to clear, by month 4 I was completely clear.

Everyone is different so results vary.

I didn't start clearing up until the end of my third month. I am now two weeks into my fourth month and haven't had a single blemish in over a week. Yay! I had a horrible initial breakout which left huge red marks. Those are now starting to fade pretty rapidly also with a little help from hydroquinone.

I have been on 40mg the whole course. In many cases it does get much worse before it gets better. Hang in there.

Okay, so please bear with me.

Say I was on 40mg of Acctuane for 1 month not to many changes except for a couple of side effects.

Then during the 2nd month, began 80mg. By the end of the 2nd month, it got progressively worse. Particuarly in areas that never had problems before and ones that always did.

I mean, for the love of god people, isn't this board supposed to give people advice or at least cheer them up?

Is it a good sign that it got worse during the 2nd month? Does that mean all the crap has surfaced and smooth sailing is ahead? Does accutane really push the crap out? Or it just what people want to think?
Is the outlook good? Worse to get better?

Hm? Hm? Hm? Hm? Hm? Hm? Hm? Starting the third month... Can I except to laugh at myself in 4 months once I have clear skin? Common.

Tight! Good replies, thanks!

I am ready for the next four months, the first two months are behind me, and clear skin is ahead.

Can't wia.t

Around day 110 I started clearing- right now I am 100% clear and very excited! I would not call it a miracle though- I still breakout, just not as bad. Good luck to you! :)

I was on 40/day for the first month then 80/month for the next 5+. The breakouts ceased about 80% after the first month....then it was real mild the next couple months...and the last 3 months or so not a single pimple...and I've been off 2 months and not a thing since except this tiny tiny soft bump on one of my cheek bones that you can't even see

hey im about to start my 4th month, ive been at 80 mg since i started treatment and my face hasnt really shown any improvement. im trying not to lose hope but im only on a 5 month course and time is winding down.

That is weird, I am 100 mg a day and I am already 70-80% clear. I am on my second month. Maybe people react differently to the drug. or maybe the fact that i use Benzoil peroxide 2.5% once in a while also helps. Who knows....? The thing is, I started clearing up by the end of the first month. Keep in mind this is my second course though!

Hey, I registered on here just so I could reply to this thread, I know how much it sucks when you want to know something badly. I'm from the UK, I@ve been on accutane for 5 weeks. For the first 4 weeks I was on 35mg a day and for the past week ( and next 10 or so) I'm on 70mg a day. Already mine has got quite a lot better. For the first couple of weeks nothing really happens at all. After that I did start to dry out a lot, and have found that most of the areas which were really bumpy beforw have calmed down. Most of the bumps and spots dried out and turned into dry skin and came off when I washed my face. However i do still have quite a way to go, and I have a lot of little marks and scars, which I'm not sure what will happen with. Maybe they will disappear over time. I hope so. Anyway so after 5 weeks I am considerably better than I was at the start, but the thing is accutane is a strange drug. People react so differently to it that it's not true. Has your skin dried out a lot or not? You can really help speed up the process by doing a lot of running and exercising, because when you work yourself hard, after you've finished it'll help dry your skin out, and that ultimately is what you want, its the dryness which gives the acne nowhere to live so to speak. Cheers.

I started taking Accutane and everything was fine. Skin cleared a ton. Going 20-30-60mg. Occasionaly I would get a pimple or two and when I would run out of pills and have to wait to get the prescription filled, i'd break out some more a bit. I mentioned this to the derm and said I don't know if it's just me or what but anyways. He asked if I could handle 80mg and my acne got worse when upping doses but my god! I started 80mg on Apr 10th and now it's May 2st and it's still worsening it seems. I have like tons of crap going on my chin and around mouth mainly, two on lower cheekbone. My acne was never this bad to begin with or during treatment or upping the dose. My skin on my chin isn't even flaking. It's like hard scabby skin crap. I told the derm this and told him i've been taking 80mg for 20 days and wtf. He said to keep taking it.

My skin has been very nice up until month 5. I was so pleased up until month 5 it was like a dream come true.

I am kind of freaking out because I was on cloud9 this entire time until start of month 5 of my course and I was supposed to be on it for 5 months projected. Now i'm almost done with month 5 and this crap is all going on with my chin!!! I have like 20 freaking things going on not to mention my chin got all red and burning etc. Like half rash.

Anyways I'm freaking out like going up to 80mg made my acne worse and now Accutane won't work or something! I know it may sound silly but this hasn't happened before and I wonder if keep me at 30mg for the entire time or longer than 5 months would have been better. I was so pleased before sigh. Freaking out so much that i'm running on message boarRAB and youtube to see if anyone had this problem in later months after being pretty much a new nice face for 4 months before this. My acne didn't even really get worse at the beginning really, just a little bit when upping doses. When it would happen it would always go away in a week but i've been on 80 so much longer!

I know people say it can take up until final months of course to see improvement but it seems i'm in reverse come month 5!
