i keep gettin little break outs still, i have a large scar on my cheek....*sigh* i understand i am not having quite the results i hear people rave about but i guess i need to be patient  , its just....my skin is still oily! my skin texture isn't very nice, nasty lookin pores :( sorry i am having a little rant here......

hi sweetamy, i am sorry you are feeling down, it really does stink waiting so long for something you want soo bad, but i know things will work out for you, is your derm working with you and listening to your concerns? its important for your doctor to be supportive too, and reassure you....please come post anytime you need encouragement, you will be clear soon! when i did a google on accutane journals i read alot of different stories, everyone is different, but there were alot that didn't see improvment till later....well take care

yeah it is important for you to have a supportive and encouraging doctor. Mine cracked a joke with her assistant when she walked into the room about a concern I had. And she never really answered my question.

I'm thinking of getting on accutane, but my skin is definitely not what it used to be like, which was about as puss filled and red as possible. It's now pretty much even complected, but very oily and a patch of red zits on both inner cheeks on my face. They are always present. I can't get rid of them. I'm hoping with accutane I can zap this stuff right out in a few months, but I obviously don't know anything about accutane yet. I just don't want to have these zits in on my face forever. It's been about 2 years now since I've had clear skin and any time someone endures years of this condition it can really take a toll on your personality and self esteem. I'll admit I cried this morning because I broke out and I never shed a tear when I was at my absolute worst condition, but it's just because I'm tired of feeling ugly and undesirable not to mention unconfident. I feel you girl.

I just wonder how old you are............I took accutane in my teens and mine cleared in 3 months and it was BAD. My sister took it in her late 20's and it unfortunately didn't work. Her Dr said that she was to old for it to work. I don't believe that I just don't think the Dr knew why it wouldn't work. Don't give up hope. I use to have to see my dr all the time while I was on it for blood work (they were very careful with this med back then), maybe you should contact your Dr and ask him why it is taking so long.

Your skin is still oily???? I remeber going from super oily to super dry. I still have super dry skin to this day and its been 20yrs since I took it.

You can eat whatever you want, food doesn't cause acne.....its caused by overactive oil glanRAB.

Most importantly never ever pick or pop your pimples!! I have a few scars from old pimples, accutane won't clear up pot marks.

Ive been on almost 4 months and i'm still not getting any clearer than before, has anyone else had this experience and then gotten clear??

My daughter didn't clear till the whole 6 months was over. That is not uncommom. You will clear eventually.

i am 24, and the accutane is helpnig, i used to get big cysts daily so i shouldn't complain, its just i hear alot of people say their skin becomes flawless, and mine just isn't at all, i am still not able to go out without any makeup at all, and that is lke my goal, i hate makeup!! (cover-up i mean)

hi, I took roacuatane years ago and it didnt really work, as I think the dose they gave me was to small, they give me a higher dose for the last month I took it but that was'nt really long enough. Looking back the skin specilaist was an idiot I told him the stuff had hardly worked and I didnt think I had a high enough dose, but he just said we can't peform miracles sorry and dismissed what i said and that was that, but I suppose thats the nhs for you in the UK. and that was over 10 years ago so I imagine it woould be even worse now. I was thinking of seeing a skin specialist but I dont know if there's any point to be honest, if there is a cure I dont think the goverment want people to know what it is for what ever reason they have??? that may sound silly but in this day and age you think there would be a simple cure for acne surley???

regarRAB beat box kid

Your only 24 so I totally understand about not going without makeup. Unfortunately when you have real bad acne you do get some pot marks, heck even I would have said my skin was flawless!!! But that is compared to what I use to be lol, and even if it clears everything BUT the marks, you will be beautiful!!! You also will get "monthly" pimples because that is due to HORMONES...uggh. Accutane won't stop that.

Thank you for the positive worRAB, i really need to hear them, i hope i clear soon, its depressing sitting and waiting

i am always worried about that to about the food, my doc. told me to eat with the accutane, but never specified how much or what to eat and i been worrying about it all the time, its an expensive drug too so i want it to do its job! i do not eat big meal, and i rarely eat all 3, i know thats bad but i am not that hungry and i also don't have alot of time to eat right or large portions...for example, if i just eat a bagel and cream cheese is that enough? does it depend on the dosage? anyone know?

hey sweet amy, no worries... you have some time left! a lot of people clear up after treatment! keep the faith

Thanks California, i just hate crying over my skin all the time, it makes me feel so self conscious constantly in front of everyone, and its hard getting my hopes up for something to work and then it not making any difference

Sweetamy, I know this thread was years ago, but I'm curious how the rest of the treatment went for you. I'm a freshman in college and am very self-conscious about acne. So far, I just finished my 4th month on Accutane and my skin is a little better (I don't really see it but that's what people have been telling me), but I still have sooo many cysts forming under my skin. My doctor says to be patient and that everyone responRAB differently to accutane so while some would be clear by now, others just take a little longer. I'm scared though that it's not working, and it's weird but I feel like there's no way it can clear my skin in the next month if it hasn't yet.

So how did it work for you, did it clear up even though it hadn't by 4th month?

mine cleared up about right before my treatment was up still have alot of scars though:(
