About to buy Hypermotard and had a few questions first

I am looking to buy a hypermotard and wanted to ask some experienced Ducati owners a few questions:

1.) What should I pay for freight and set up?
2.) What are the required maintenance costs (roughly)?
3.) What are the otd prices you have been seeing and/or received on both standard and s hm's?

I really appreciate your input and am very excited to join the Duc family!

I would try to get this thrown in. Especially if you are paying MSRP.....Or conversely get this amount taken off the bike price in the deal. DNA says all the freight and prep bull is included in the MSRP, but I have yet to find a dealer who doesn't work this to make a few extra bucks, or "sweeten" the deal by saying:"Well prep, fluids, freight are supposed to be $xxx, but I can get that thrown in for you if you buy...."

Very variable pricing from dealer to dealer. I would suggest checking with Ducati NA what they "estimate" the 600 and 7.5k service visits should be. They can give you an idea, but the dealer should be able to tell you exactly what they charge. Typically with valve adjustments those visits can run $700-$1200. The 600 miler is usually about $400

Sorry. Don't know this one, but with the way all retail markets are now you should be able to work a good deal. Also, if you have a few dealers to choose from shop around. You may be able to find an '08 if you are lucky. But bear in mind that the final price shouldn't be the end all and be all of the sale. The best price OTD in the world can't make up for a shitty service department or bad attitudes from the sales/front end staff. It is probably worth a few extra bucks to go with a shop you think you would want to hang outin if you had a free afternoon.

Hope that helps!

Wow, that sounds awfully high - Is that Hympermotard specific? I spoke with my dealer specifically about service costs before purchasing my 1198 because I had heard that some dealers charge much more than what DNA recommends for routine service. I was quoted at approx. $200 and $500 for the 600 and 7,500 mile service, respectively.

That 7.5k is a great price as dealers go. It can be all over the map. My dealer it is like $750 IIRC, but I have heard and seen as high as $1200!! That's for 848/1098/1198

Before I put my deposit down, I asked to speak with the head of their maintenance and brought the Keeping Them Honest article that I had read regarding DNA quotes and the lack of correlations between dealer quotes. When I showed him the article, he said something to the extent of "Our prices aren't exactly that, but let me get you the sheet for the 1098's since we've not worked on the 1198 yet," and they were very similar.

I have nothing but good things to say about D&D Cycles in Pensacola thus far.
