About the Road King Classic and a BIG Howdy to all

I'd go with the 2011 and the 103 engine.

The Stage one is just a better flowing air filter and maybe pipes to allow the engine to breathe and perform better. If you're able to do it yourself the A/F kit is around $100 or so and decent pipes are around $400. Check out the Fuel Moto site(they are a sponsor here), they have packages that are a pretty good deal. When this is done you'll need to tune this also and Fuel Moto can help with a map for this.

Exhausts systems are like women....it's all in the eye(ear) of the beholder. Check out some for looks/sound and see what you like. I have V&H Oval slip-ons and love the sound.

Bars will depend on your height. I'm 6' 2" and have the RK High Bars and they fit me great.

I have the Sundowner seat and like it. Not perfect, but good. I might go with a C&C seat next Spring.

First off, welcome to the forum...

2nd/ have you rode anything? Do you have a motorcycle license? If you do I would suggest a demo event to check out several different models.

3RD / I like to looks of the RK but I could stand not having a radio..love the tunes going down the highway.

4TH / any passenger? if so, make sure she's comfortable with whatever you choose. If Momma ain't happy, no body's happy.

Bigger is always better

Stage 1, quick answer, it's free flowing exhaust, better air filter and a remap of the fuel management system, wakes it up a little.

Exhaust systems, mufflers etc are very subjective, what someone else like, you may not...best to go to a bike night or dealership on a weekend and listen to other bikes, ask what they are running. Me, I like more of a quite muffler. The Screaming Eagle touring fit me fine.

Again, very subjective...gonna have to look around and check out a bunch of different bikes, ask first before sitting on any one's bike..

There's a ton of seat makers out the, inter search should led you to a bunch of different ones, C&C, Corbin, etc...might even check out a horse saddle maker....or upholstery shop.

Yes, big investment, go slowly, ask around...walk around and check out all you can. Your money, your butt, your bike! Don't buy what someone else likes, get what you like. If the RK is your bike, go for it...
Ask yourself, "what am I going to do with the bike?" " how am I going to ride it, around town, trips?"

Good luck on your choice, I love motorcycles period..all kinds, all brands...The RK is sweet, but for me the Ultra is what I would choose, but again, that's me.

Welcome to the forum. I cannot comment on the differences in the 10 vs 11 RKC since my only experience is an 04. When I got mine I too had to switch out the bars and went with HD's Road King High Bars. It brought the bars back just enough that I don't feel like I'm leaning over the tank to reach them. Here is a thread that was posted a few days ago and may answer your questions on a stage 1 upgrade http://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/558509-ok-all-you-harley-nerds.html it provides the following link to a site that explains the different stage upgrades in more detail, http://www.american-v.co.uk/technical/tuning/staging/index.html

Not sure about a brown seat unless you get a custom made one. But you definitely will want to change out the stock seat, they are not good for long miles. I put a Mustang on mine.

Good luck with you purchase.

Welcome to the site, just like you, I was away from riding for 28 yrs but because I had a bad wreck and I decided to take a break. I just bought a RK only I bought a 1996, money was an issue and I wasn't sure if I was going to be happy riding once again. I will tell you this, take the MSF Motorcycle Safety Foundation Course, http://msf-usa.org/
I was told by some friends to take it and I am glad I did.

Good luck in your purchase and be safe!

Welcome and another vote for the MSF class...I wish I could tell you more on the RKC but I'm waiting on delivery for my first HD Plenty of knowledge to share here for sure

Traded in an '08 RK FLHR with a 96 for a '10 Limited with a 103. If this is going to be your LIFETIME bike (NOT, I hadn't ridden in 40 years, and was older than 50 when I got my LIFETIME BIKE, on #2 and wondering if it wouldn't be nice to have another little something on the other side of the garage), THEN I WOULD GO WITH THE '11 AND THE 103. Loved my RK, and dealer installed cams, but 103 is very nice. Good Luck, and Welcome!

2011 made a few internal engine improvment that came from complaints, and the cost of warrentie work on previous years.the bars on the rkc are one of the first mods most make they are to low and far forward and leed to shoulder and neck pain for many.there are a lot of shops that will recover and or modify stock seats ussually starts around 100$. stg 1 read up on that, fuelmoto comes highly recommended
