about my anime collection...

(first, I haven't posted here in months, but it's been years since I actually posted regularly so I've forgotten the rules, but I'm NOT trying to sell anything here, I just want some input...)

I'm sitting here looking at my anime collection...and I think it's time to get rid of it. Thing is however, I don't want to go the ebay or craigslist route...so are there any viable outlets out there for me to sell my anime collection? It's quite hard to part with my collection that back in the day (2003-2004), every paycheck went towarRAB buying anime. My entire collection, as far as retail value ($25 per dvd) cost approximately $3000. Actually, it's probably more since I always bought the vol.1 w/box.

Also, I don't know what's out of print or what's a collector's item. I mean, I have a variety of anime, from the X box set (all dvd's with the "leather" sleeves from pioneer), Trigun original dvd's from pioneer with the box, the Samurai Kyo wooden dvd box (which looked way out of place in my dvd stand) etc etc...anyway, hope someone can help me out here.
 
Ahh...Yes there comes a time in every mans life where he must learn to give up his possesions (Im still trying to get rid of all the childhood junk lego's action figures, etc. clogging up my closest.)

Well I don't think someone should ever get rid of all of there collection, if theres a show or 2 your really like its ok to keep it, but as for everything else your best bet would be to have a garage sale or sale them back for store credit. & im sure you can find out how much some of the stuff is worth online.
 
As a basic resource, you can search for your titles in Right Stuf's bargin bin. If they show up, chances are they are not ones anyone is killing over. You can use that as a guide if you need to do pricing.
 
I strongly recommend not trading anything in for credit. I've never seen a business that gives you anything reserabling a fair value for trading in. You can almost always get more selling an item to someone directly.
 
Whatever you do, just don't sell your stuff to FYE, Gamestop, or BlockBuster. Bring in a $50 boxset that came out two months ago and they'll try to pay you less than $10.
 
What is it about eBay / Craigslist that's turning you off? Because if it's a matter of price, the way to get the best deal is going to be to sell each item individually (or grouping them together in a way that makes sense, such as by series) at an auction site like that, no way around it.

If you just want the convenience of being able to unload everything all at once, then you can always take them to someplace like Bookmans, but you'll get a lot less for them that way (especially if you want cash as opposed to store credit).

That's just how it is.
 
the thing about ebay and craiglist (imo) is that it has very low visibility, unless of course, the the thing you're selling is hot right now, ie. g.i. joe figures. it'd take months just to get rid of all my stuff.
