Abortion debate? I do not understand the whole debate, I know there are

pro-lifers who believe people should? not abort, and the pro-choicers who believe women have the right to do so. Although personally, I would not have an abortion and do not think it should be used as birth control why should I intervene if someone else wants to have one? I mean, if you are against abortions do not do them. I understand the debate that we must take care of the children and protect their lives, so start with the kids living in the streets, or the hungry kids in around the world, how about those who get abused all the time?
This is a great answer, thank you. You took the time to acknowledge both sides instead of just saying it is wrong or it is right! I am actually more like you than you think, I think abortions are horrible, and some women do not realize how much it can traumatize you and you will have to live with the decision you made for the rest of your life. I know someone who had an abortion, I do not think any less of her, and especially since she goes into a major depression every year around the time, she did it. Now, she cannot have children and that would have probably been her only shot at it.
I know a fetus is a baby; I have held two beautiful ones in my womb and would have never had the heart to hurt them. I would not be able to live with myself if I had. What I was trying to get at was, why not spend some of that effort people spend on hating those who have abortions (which is legal) and helping those, they can help as you do, and your family does.

You miss the point. In the US we are guaranteed the right to life, liberty and happiness. The right to life is our most fundamental. Someone has to speak for the unborn children since they cannot do it themselves. If they could, they would say "Please don't kill me."

"why should I intervene if someone else wants to have one?"

If you saw someone get robbed, would you intervene? What about if they were raped? Murdered? When someone does something to someone else, is it possible that sometimes you might feel the need to get involved and do something about it? So if you want to turn a blind eye to abortion as a convenience to dodge responsibility, it's your choice, abortion is legal, they can legally do that. But science says that cells are living things, and a conceived fetus is a living human, and abortion is the murder of a living human. It might not be walking, talking and capable of holding down a steady job, but then again, neither is a baby that's 2 months old. So why draw a line in the sand and say that this form of murder is justifiable, and why turn a blind eye to it?

I'm against, murder, theft, rape, etc... and I won't turn a blind eye to others that do those things and say that's their choice and it doesn't affect me, I won't do the same for abortion either.

Actually there are several abortion debates: the medical debate, the moral [aka religious] debate, the financial debate, the legal [civil liberties] debate, and possible a few debates I didn't think of.

The civil liberties is one of privacy. One of our basic rights is the right to be free of whimsical, tyrannical, abitrary laws, to have our government simply leave us alone unless there is a good reason to interere with us. It is not up to the people to prove that we have this or that right, but up to our government to prove that it's restrictions are based on compelling interest.

Compel means force. If my actions infringe directly on the rights of others or present a clear and present danger to our national security, then our government MUST act to curb my actions, MUST protect the rights of other, MUST protect our national security. If if was your rights being violated and the government failed to act, you could take your own government to court and MAKE it do its job. (I love this country!)

The other side of that is when government can't prove that it has a compelling interest, that is is FORCED to interfere with my personal choices, then I can take my government to court and MAKE it back off and leave me alone. (I love this country!) That is what happened in Roe vs Wade, the government tried but was unable to prove that an individials' choice of abortion directly violated the rights of others.

I am pro choice because I cannot think of anything more barbaric than forcing a woman or little girl to gestate unwillingly.

You asked "Why should I intervene if someone else wants to have" an abortion. The same reason that you stop a serial killer about to kill an innocent family by calling the police. Just because some believe that murder(aka abortion) is alright, does not make it okay.

1. The world is heavily over populated, abolishing abortion would not help that at all.

2. Rape, incest, and a lot of scenarios basically demand an abortion.

3. If people don't believe in it then they shouldn't have it.

But...

1. The Bible says God knows everyone before he made them in the womb.

2. If I believe God exists and that is true, then that would mean that fetises are people.

3. Adoption is just as possible as abortion, why not do that instead of murdering a baby?

4. Why didn't she use birth control in the first place?

I personally have no ability to form an opinion on the subject.

To me, it is more an issue of women's rights. Before Roe v. Wade, women could not decide how many children they were going to have and they could not buy birth control, including condoms. I would not want to return to a world where I was forced to conceive a child because my husband said so and I had no way to protect myself if I didn't want children,
