Does anyone else hate this?

Those scenes in US comedy movies when characters look at the camera, or sometimes two people look at each other and just scream for 'comic effect'?

One best known example is in Home Alone when Macauley Culkin puts the after shave on his face.

Another one I recall is in the Coen Bros' Raising Arizona, when Goodman and his cohort realise they have left the baby in the road, and start to scream for what seems like ages (though I like to think this is meant to be over the top in this case).

But in other comedy movies it seems to be an overused cliche, and I often find it pure laziness on the part of the writers - instead of coming up with a funny, witty line, they just write 'insert comic scream here'.

I do a brill Macaulay Culkin impression but it annoys the pish out of everyone I do it for. Especially when I keep repeating it.

One person even said he would smack me on the nose if I didn't stop it.

I did it again and ran away.

Nobody did it better than Oliver Hardy. He pulled off the "exasperated man pulling you into his world" with great aplomb.

But I think that shows it's not such a new gag as many might think.

yeah but you can forgive that, the whole point of that fantastic movie was that Jay is so stupid he can use all the cliches he wants "say it dont spray it" awesome!! it is meant to be a cheesy, packed full of cliches comedy.
just like Chasing Amy was meant to be about a good looking lesbian (very unrealistic )
