A "Which film is this?" question.

Can anyone help me with this film please
It was on telly in the late 80's, late night in the Granada region.
Set in WW2 what I remember most were the the extremely graphic battle scenes between Germans and the Allies.
Troops in bunkers were shown being burned with flame throwers, gruesome scenes of carnage on the battlefield---it was incredibly visceral stuff.
It was similar in some ways to Cross of Iron.
I cant remember its name though- I know you people out there are very good at these, so maybe somebody recalls it.

I would be suprised if it was 'come and see', the only time I've seen this on TV was on C4 in Russian with English sub-titles.

More likely it was Sam Fuller's, The Big Red One.

Was it Black and white or colour do you remember ?

Hell is for heroes bw 1962 with Steve Mcqueen has a bunker attack where demolition charges and flame throwers are used.
It enRAB with the bunker blazing away as the end titles roll.

Or if colour perhaps it was Stalingrad 1993 that gets pretty gruesome.

last minute thought Sven hassl's book wheels of terror was made into a movie, havn't seen it but the books are pretty uncompromising.

Kafka- I'm pretty sure it was colour.
Funny you should mention Sven Hassal because its exactly the sort of film they would make from one of his books.
Stalingrad I think, doesnt fit the time frame.

Good point about Stalingrad I was forgetting you saw it in the 80s.
I am curious now so will probably keep thinking about it for a while.

Some I think I can discount because you would have remembered some details to guide the search.

Like A Bridge too far you would have remembered it was an airborn landing.

The likes of Anzio well you would have mentioned beach landings.

All we really know is its 80s or before Color and very graphic.
Flamethrowers are used to counter bunkers pillboxes and in house to house combat.
You mention Allies vs Germans so thats the pacific war out of the way.

btw Wheels of terror was made into a movie called "The misfit Brigade in 1987 and it doesnt seem to be as graphic as the books.
