It really depends on what type of painting you're looking at doing. Your local big-chain book store should have a pretty decent section on visual arts and techniques. Even if you just go in grab a coffee and flip through some of them (don't have to buy it), you might get some inspiration. The art section is usually secluded in a corner somewhere so I doubt that anyone will bother you.

I'm looking to pick up some novel and unusual painting techniques, the more novel and off the beaten track the better. Do you know a web site that might be aimed at this? Tips and tricks or whole tutorials?
