A Valid Reason for Returning My Pearl?

I just upgraded to the new T-Mo OS (4.2.1.107) and all of my BB Messenger contacts got dumped. This has happened before with other OS's (dating back to Telstra). Can this be a valid reason to exchange my BB for maybe a different phone? I have had 1 Pearl already and this is my 2nd. Thanks.
 
~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~donlt know about T-mo for sure but w/ATT it has to be the 3rd exchange b4 they will allow a different device. I turned a TREO user to a BB Curve that way!
 
This is my 3rd phone this year. I started with a 7105t whose trackwheel crapped out. My first Pearl shut down. This one pukes my BB Messenger contact list whenever I update the OS.

Did you back up (and restore)? My BBM contacts survived the OS upgrade intact.....

I am not an expert on this but I doubt very much that TMO will find this a reason to replace your pearl. You may also note that until today they still considered .64 to be current, so any upgrades you did were on your own....
 
Nope thats not a valid reason sorry to say. I had the same problem. Its happened a few times but I was able to recover them after restoring like 4 times and doing other stuff. It happened on one of my last updates and I lost my BB messenger contacts for good though. Its all about the backup IMO, its a hit or miss with BB Messenger contacts.
 
Yes I have backed up, and tried to, restore the contacts several times. Here's the exact error message I got earlier today: "The following database(s) could not be fully restored to your device: BlackBerry Messenger 0 of 1 entries restored. The backup data file has been saved to "C:\Documents and Settings\ower\MyDocuments\BlackBerry\LoaderBackup-(2007-08-23).ipd."

I tried to restore that and still had no BB Messenger contacts.
 
Blackberry Messenger Contacts are iffy on every OS install/update. You can consider yourself lucky if you get them. I doubt very seriously if your carrier will consider that an valid reason for exchange.

if u want an exchange jsut call and say the following

my tracball isnt working when i scroll to the left or right
tell them u hard reset the device
that u ran app laoder
tell them u updated the os
tried using a new battery

then it should be an easy warrenty exchange then. because when you call to do an exchange thats what they have to do to troubleshoot the device if u tell them u did that already then they have nothing to do they will send u anouther device. ohh if its not ur first warrenty exchange u shoudl be able to get free shipping
 
Well, it did it again last night so I am getting close to calling them and saying I have reset the device and it is in a constant reset loop unless I reload the OS. This is not the first warranty exchange (I have lost count LOL). Shipping has alsways been $15 USD (for 3 day express shipping. 7-10 day shipping is $9.99). I have had it with BB for now. I will still come check the forums and help out but it's time to get something more stable for me.
