Its height is 8 feet more than its base. Find the measure of the base?

Can someone please help me solve this?

The area of the triangle is (base)(height)/2

So, if the height is base + 8, we have

(base)(base + 8)/2 = 280

So, base^2 + 8*base = 560

Now, get everything to one side of the equation and solve for base:

b^2 + 8b - 560 = 0

(b + 28)(b - 20) = 0

So, your two dimensions are 28 and 20. Base is 20 since height is larger ( :
