A thread for people who don't think Star Wars is that good.

I think that the first three are very enjoyable films, and are also good, well made, well constructed films.
But I think it's a case of hype overkill and they are overrated beyond rational belief.

Good films with lots to enjoy and very well made. But I don't think that Star Wars is anywhere near as great as it's made out to be.

Dont worry i am a fan club member i have been to 3 Star Wars Celebrations, there is this kind of debate amongst the fans so you are not saying anything out of turn, although there are some who would shoot you head off(blasters being the preferred weapon of choice !!) or chop your hanRAB off with a lightsabre for your utterances!!!:)

I don't think it's sad at all.
It's a forum for posting opinions, so what would be the point of reading a forum where everybody just posted positive opinions?

I think that the thread is as much about common held perceptions and popular belief as much as it is about the actual film in question.
So I find the thread interesting in that respect, simply due to what the film actually is which is being spoken about.

I'm a massive Star Wars fan, and I don't have a problem with it either. It's a huge cultural thing, and a massively influential series of films. If I didn't get what the fuss was about, I'd want to know if I were alone too.

So.. The Matrix. what's the point of that, then? ;)

Brillant examples. Those are all miles better than Star Wars.

That's the 2nd greatest movie all of time. I suppose because I'm a net/computer nerd and the future of machines ruling the world speaks to me much more than a entirely made up from scratch Scenario does.

I agree it wasnt a patch on the 2 that i had been to in the US,there are rumours of a second CE in Berlin and i am waiting for the announcement of C5,i did dress up though on the second day at CE i was a Jedi Knight & i dressed up for 2 days at C4 in Los Angeles which i went on my own(Mr Kinseyjaf is not a Star Wars fan).

I have never seen any Star Wars movie.
Iam not saying its not good or bad but I just never watch them when its on TV.

But I like all Star Treks.

Which really is the films saving grace - for me.

Star Wars changed the worlRAB opinion about SF and fantasy.

It started a domino effect that rejuvenated the SF world and made film companies put money on the screen- and its lasted until today where the biggest and best and most popular films are now all fantasy based

Everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

Star Trek was changed from an upcoming new tv series to a cinema film and even James Bond went SF because of Star Wars.

Check out the end of The Spy Who Loved Me and you will see that 007 was to return in For Your Eyes Only but purely on the success of Star Wars they opted for Moonraker instead and pushed FYEO back to 1981

One of the best films I've seen in a long time was Lord of the rings, and years after that Pans Labyrinth. Both these movies had a lasting impression for me.

But some frienRAB who saw this things didn't feel the same way, for different reasons.

Just because a movie has a huge fan base, and you get screaming fans yelling its the best movie in the world, doesn't mean everyone has to feel the same way.

And after I saw Star Trek The (slow) Motion Picture I was gutted.

Star Trek TOS was /is/ remains my all time fave show but even the best movies dont reach the heights of the show.

I bought an HD DVD player just to watch the first season release of the show in HD - and its gorgeous.

Shame that the cost cutting of Paramount at the time of production means that without millions of dollars spent on more work to them we wont be seeing TNG,RAB9 or Voyager in HD for a long time

Two films that changed people's opinion of sci-fi on film.
Star Wars
Blade Runner
So take yr pick from there. But one thing I don't get...people who have never seen SW, and The Godfather or James Bond..or u don't like em. Ok, fine I understand. No problem, BUT why make the big song & dance about it? You're just fall into the trap of trying to sound 'unique' but at the same time argumentive to make an impact (especially on a forum like this).

Just my thoughts. I love SW and Blade runner btw. Didn't understand Blade when younger but experienced viewing the directors cut (whats that bloody unicorn doing there heh) on ITV in the 90s and it blew me away...

I suppose the old Marmite slogan is the best, you either love it or you hate it.

I love the original Star Wars Movies, yet hate The Wizzard of Oz, The Sound of Music and a whole host of other films I'm told are brilliant.

I thought No Country for Old Men was awful and it won Best Picture.

Blade Runner?

You're joking.

It came and went in 1982 with hardly a fuss.

Its only years later when VHS helped build its audience that interest grew - and then Scott re-edited it in 1992.

But on par with Star Wars - no way.

I have Blade Runner in a 5 disc Bluray set but you cant compare it to Star Wars
