A thread for people who don't think Star Wars is that good.

It's massive possibly the biggest movie franchise and cult in history. Star Wars but I am the only person who saw the original trilogy and it didn't really do much for me. It's alright but cannot get what the fuss is about. There are movies 20 times better.

I am the only one? Every time people bring up Star Wars and I admit to not really liking it. It's like blastfamy or something.

You're not the only one! I think it's a pretty average film. I really do not understand the hype at all and you'd have to pay me to sit down and watch it.

Dito, I finally saw the original 3 once and only once in 2003. Even then becuase Episode 4 was just starting on TV and nothing else was on and I thought I suppose I should watch see what all the fuss is about. It didn't do much for me but watched 5&6 the following days as well thinking maybe I'd feel the buzz after seeing all 3 but no still got nothing.

and finally saw all 3 prequels just last year back to back at a frienRAB house and just found them boring. There are a few films I am somewhat 'obessed' with but certainly not these.

But they haven't said they dislike it, just that it wasn't all that good.

For me, it changed my life & the course of cinema history. But I was there at the time & did not view them in retrospect like these posters seem to have done.

I did not think too much about Menace/Clones (not seen the last).

I really enjoyed the original trilogy as a kid in the 80's but I don't particularly enjoy them now and that's the thing they are kiRAB movies (great kiRAB movies) and not much more.

Problem is because of incredible hype and the fame of the Star Wars franchise so many people feel they have to like these movies whatever age they are but if you did not see them under the age of 12 you are much less likely to enjoy.

I am a lifelong sci-fi fan but although I saw the films at the cinema when first released I still cant understand how they have become so big.

SF was always laughed at and frowned upon by film and tv companies and it was Star Wars that changed the face of SF around the world for all time.

I've always had the films in my tape/disc collection but even now I've not watched the recent 3 movies.

I enjoy watching the original trilogy but I prefer Indiana Jones,Back to the Future,Jurassic Park and any other number of films over Star Wars

Let's face it, if you didn't see these films as a child in the late 70s/early-mid 80s then they'll always be just another silly fantasy film, only with cardboard box special effects and a flabby script.

The magic of (and love for) Star Wars comes from the WOW factor of seeing them as a kid, when nothing else before has come close in terms of a visual experience that sucks you into a world far removed from that which you're familiar with. Before Star Wars I thought Ray Harryhousen's mytholgical epics were the best-of-the-best, Lucas took things a step further (but unfortunately has since lost the plot completely).

These days there's so much to see at the cinema/on DVD with great special effects (as well as lots with rubbish effects) that's impossible to see Star Wars through the same eyes as I did every christmas from the age of 6.

Exactly. How old is the OP? I'm of the Star Wars generation so I have love for BttF, Gremlins, Goonies, Gjostbusters etc. etc. which really aren't much cop unless you're about 30.

No, Dennis is correct.

Star Trek was set to return to TV (as Star Trek: Phase II), then after the success of Star Wars it was decided to scrap the series & make a feature film instead.

As I understand it, she didn't see it until her mid-teens. It was "life changing" by all accounts. She hates the prequels with a disturbing level of venom.

Then again, many do. ;)
