A THIRD edited-ABC Family-version of 'Santa Claus is Comin to Town'

Over the decade, ABC Family has shown not one, not two, but three different edits of the Rankin-Bass special Santa Claus is Comin to Town.

For much of the first half of the decade, the edit version broadcast (and still shown on ABC) removed Kris Kringle's solo 'If You sit on my lap today' and Jessica's solo 'My World is Beginning Today.'

Around 2006 to 2009, there came a second edited version. This one restored all the songs, but edited a lyric or two out of most of them. The closing credits with Fred Astaire singing the title song also got cut off right in the middle of the kids' parade. Also, the scenes of people hating Christmas (a civilian, a Department store gift-wrapper, and a businessman) has also been removed.

Now, 2010 comes a new version. All the songs are complete, but certain scenes are now gone.
-Kris and Topper escaping the Winter Warlock.
-The Burgomeister MeisterBurger's soldiers grabbing all the toys ("We'll never play again").'
-A Sombertown boy talking about the stockings he has to wash.
-A description of Kris Kringle's athleticism as he escapes.
-Kris freaking out in the Warlock's clutches.
-Burgomeister Meisterbruger setting a pile of toys aflame, much to the tears of the children.
-Burgomeister Meisterburger's order to hunt down Kris and the elves after their escape.
-Fred Astaire ending his story, much to the audience's sighs.

Well I like this edit better than the last one that they've been showing. While I liked the last edit for putting back in "My World Is Beginning Today" (Which is now my favorite song of the special), I hated how they cut parts out of some of the other songs.

It's amusing that with the new edits above, they put back in all the things missing from the second edit (Such as the scene at the end of the people hating Christmas, the Rudolph reference when they talk about the reindeer, etc.).

Concerns with parental watchdogs I believe.

That or just trying to be PC and pissing off the people who saw it as a child (Pardon my language).

Nah, I think it's because ABC Family was trying to make more room for commercials. I don't see why anything that was cut out before would be offensive, except maybe the burning toys bit which might upset younger children.

I am sure that it is being cut for time unless talking about washing stockings is offensive these days:p

My dad has the DVD somewhere so I really don't care what they do to it.
