A-Team

If you think the A-Team's bad, I read somewhere Russell Crowe is planning to remake The Equalizer and play the title role .

I liked Russell Crowe in Romper Stomper and A Beautiful Mind, but remaking The Equalizer? No thanks- the original TV series was the best and Crowe will never live up to Edward Woodward.

Why can't Hollywood just leave classic TV shows alone?

I get the impression that Quinton Jackson has been done up to look like Mr T, as opposed to his own interpretation of BA Baracus. It's like remaking a Marilyn Monroe film and having the lead actress dress up like Marilyn! I haven't actually seen the film though so am probably wrong in imagining it's just one big Mr T impersonation.

The Equalizer was an excellent show. Personally, I doubt Crowe's ever seen an episode. If he seriously thinks he can fill Edward Woodward's shoes then he's got another thing coming.

The last thing The Equalizer neeRAB is some family friendly PG13 remake with loaRAB of CGI explosions and quickly edited fight scenes. It was always an intelligent, adult series where violence was used as a last resort. Personally, I'm surprised the US audience ever "got it".

When I saw the trailer I thought "oh no"

It looks like an embarrassing mess. Typical Hollywood took a formula that almost couldn't fail...yet somehow made it fail!

None of the actors look anything like the characters from the programme.

And as with every modern Hollywood movie it looks too far fetched.

The trailer shows a tank falling through the sky!

And thats a scene they chose for the trailer!

It looks like a chaotic, far fetched mess filled with CGI and scenes that would take you right out of the movie.

CGI?

A tank falling through the sky?

I'm out!

I think if you go into it as a big A-Team fan, wanting the new characters to be identical to the old and the feel to be the same then you'll be disappointed. If you're open minded about it being a different interpretation, different takes on the characters, somewhat different plot, modernised scenario then its enjoyable.

I really enjoyed it, i loved the little references to the original series and the plain stupidity of the new movie, even though i usually prefer more serious movies.

I wonder how old the people who dont like it are and if they were big fans of the original series.

It was like watching an action packed video game.

Wholly ridiculous action set pieces and you never felt the team were ever in any danger no matter what they did, even when they were close to death they would be cracking jokes and laughing. I like my action movies but I also like them to have a sense of seriousness.

Not a patch on the classic TV show but good special effects. More comedy than action.

This wasn't half as bad as lot of people are saying. I wasn't a fan of the TV series and I only watched it if nothing else was on, but I actually enjoyed this.
It was a decent tongue in cheek action film, nothing more. :)

On a different note, the IMDB need to update their info as it says this has a 12A with cuts. Its not cut at all. The BBFC advised them on an unfinished version of the film and they made the amendments to guarantee it a 12A.

Really? TowarRAB the end of the film it looked like the film makers ran out of effects money. The sinking boat/falling crates section was laughable for an expensive summer blockbuster, it looked almost like a cartoon to me.

Like i've said previously though, i liked the film and i guess it's only a minor criticism really.

I saw this last night and noticed straight away this was going to be a film that wasnt taking itself seriously and i never take action flicks too seriously anyway so i quite enjoyed watching it and had a few LOL moments throughout.

Even though i really enjoyed it the only real gripe i had personally (not that it took anything away from the film itself) is i didnt think Liam Neeson was the right person to play Hannibal, because to me, George Peppard was a great looking actor and had a certain look and to me Liam Neeson doesnt fit into that category (not bashing LN before anyone starts he's a great actor just not the one i would've picked to play Hannibal) Im not really a Bradley Cooper fan either but i enjoyed him in this. Murdoch and BA were great :)

I loved noticing all the little things they put in from the TV show like
building explosive stuff from nothing, BA and the not flying thing, was disappointed he didnt drink any milk though :D

and ChuckyBlackheart the bit with the tank works in great with the scene its in so dont knock it til you've seen it!! just watch the film tongue in cheek the way its intended to be seen!!

I saw The A-Team while on holiday and while it's not a masterpiece, it's very entertaining and it captures the tone of the original series. Sharpto Copley as Murdock was a highlight. I do agree that the film couldn't decide whether it wanted to serious and gritty or over the top, I think it should have been more over the top.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Reviews for the film had been pretty sketchy with the consensus being that it was quite poor. So we went in with low expectations. If I could have one or two decent laughs and some solid gunfire, then I

Thought the TV series was repetitive garbage for thee dim so the chances of me seeing this, even by laziness on a quiet afternoon, are about zero.

The Times dumped on it as well.

Pretty poor really - lots of sound and fury signifying little and it makes the big mistake of acting smug from the start rather than earning your love through character and plot development.
Plus, all that money and the makers couldn't be bothered to check what Frankfurt Station looks like and used footage of Cologne instead. I'm sure the Germans will love them for that.

I am going to see this tommorrow night will report back my thoughts-btw i am a mega Liam Neeson fan, just love his presence and that amazing voice!!

Be prepared to sit through the whole of the end credits if you want any sort of paypack for having 2 hours of your life lost.

There are some very good visual references in a couple of spots relating to the original TV cast, but that's about all that redeems the film from being a complete stinker.

Completely agree. I don't understand all the negative reviews, i mean what did people expect? I saw this yesterday and i really enjoyed myself. It's an absolute blast of a film and extremely entertaining. It's a dumb action movie based on a dumb action tv series from the 80's! It's not meant to be taken seriously, it's tongue is firmly in its cheek.

What held the film together for me throughout was the chemistry between the 4 leaRAB, i thought they were fantastic! If that wasn't there the film would have been an epic fail. But they genuinely really gelled together and you could tell on screen. And for me Sharlto Copley as Murdoch was the highlight! He was hilarious. Everyone was laughing when he appeared on screen, epecially that Braveheart scene! :D And Jessica Biel, she is one good looking woman!

I don't understand all the negativity but if you leave your brain at the door you'll thoroughly enjoy yourself, i certainly did. I'd happily watch this again over say something like Iron Man 2 which was disappointing.

I didn't stay throughout the end credits so i don't know what i missed. Can someone please fill me in?
