They don't. If it was simply taped to your door and you were not served then attendance is optional.

How can the court know if I ever received the subpoena. I only know about the subpoena because a friend of mine lives at that address now. Will there be penalty for me if I never received the subpeona and therefore don't show to court to testify as a witness?
