A Streetcar Named Desire

One of my favorite movies and definitely my favorite Brando movie....He was so hot in his heyday! :) The performances were really excellent.

The original dvd release from several years ago had plenty of extras as well (that I haven't watched). I don't think it was anything fancy - I doubt it was remastered and it was only one disc but it's still a great version.

I can see what you mean Shrrshrr about Stella. She most definitely was the weakest link in the film. I don't know if it is her per se or if it's because the others are so strong that she looks weaker than she is. I mean, I think Brando and Leigh especially are always incredible but these are their best performances - to me.

When I read the play in high school my teacher emphasized that what kept Stella and Stanley together was sex - their passion for each other - and that's always bothered me. I believe it, and I see it, but I liked the film Stella better because of that difference.
 
I adore the play, and the movie interprets it well. Plus, you can't really go wrong with the cast. No wonder Marlon Brando's career took off after this!

Still, I think they could have gone a bit farther with the sexual tension on Stella's part - she's the weakest link in the film (although that's relative because the actress does a decent job).

ETA - interesting that the poster you've shown is in color, while the film was in black-and-white...
 
It certainly does. In the play, Stella and Stanley stay together. In the movie, Stella leaves Stanley and that contributes to making her stronger in my view.
 
I know I really want to get the two disc DVD but none of the stores around me have it.
 
I love this movie.
It's a masterpiece. I heard it was released on DVD, with 2 discs and lots os extras. The extras include documentaries about the staging of the play.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I can't be the only fan of it here, so lets discuss it :D
