I went to my first basic English class today. I am British and live in a one bedroom flat. At college there was other students learning basic English and every one except me was foreign. I got friendly with a girl from the class who is from Europe and we exchanged numbers and talk and stayed together. When it was home time she asked me if I lived on my own so I said yes, not wanting to lie, and then she said "can I move in with you" this came as a shock because I only just met her, so I made up a lie and said that I'm "in a bedsit" instead of a flat. I feel really terrible now for turning her down, but I hardly know her and I have mental issues, but that's not the point, the point is that I live in a one bedroom flat and can not accommodate her. I feel sick now because compared to the Europeans, and other foreigners who come to England the British have it quite easy and I feel guilty.
I go back to class on Monday but don't know how to face her.
My question is was I right to turn her down.
