A strange feeling from bicycle sit ups?

I always stretch before I work out and a little after too, but I notice that when I do bicycle sit ups I get a strange feeling, usually in my left leg. It's like a little jolt or something. I feel it mostly in my knee, but it's like a string that runs through the inside of my leg being tugged. It only happens when I do this type of sit up and it's not painful but it freaks me out so I stop. It sucks because I hear these sit ups are the best for abs. My guess is that it must be a nerve in my leg or something.. does anyone know what im talking about?
