A stereo sells for $166.96. If the stereo is 15% off and the sales tax is 8%, what

First you must take 15% of 166.96 dollars, the final value that can be taxed.

Convert 15% to a decimal: 15/100 = 0.15

166.96 x .15 = 25.044

25.044 is what you get OFF, so you have to subtract that fromt he original price,

166.96 - 25.044 = 141.916

141.916 is your total "taxable" value (what you spent on it and will pay for a the register), so now you apply your sales tax
Convert 8% to decimal form
8/100 = .08

141.916 x .08 = 11.353

Now because you have to pay the tax, you add that onto your final value (141.916), to get a grand total of:

141.916 + 11.353 = 153.27 dollars

Hope that helped!

okay. the selling price for the stereo before the discount is $166.96. now you take the 15% discount off:
166.96 ÷ 100 = 1.6696
1.6696 x 85 = 141.916

now add 8 % tax to it:
141.916 ÷ 100 = 1.41916
1.41916 x 108 = 153.26928

now round off:
153.26928 = 153.27

$153.27 is the answer

i hope this helps :)

15% off = $166.96 x 0.15 = $25.04 off
tax = $166.96 x 0.08 = add $13.36
total = $155.28

to get the percentage of a total u just turn the percent into a decimal by moving the decimal back 2 spaces and multiplying it by the whole number
