A Series Of Unfortunate Events

Well personally, I loved it! Although it doesn't stay completly true to the books (wedding's at the end of the film instead of during the first part.). My ma came with me and thought it was better than the first 2 Harry Potter films. She also hates Jim Carrey but thought he was fantastic in this! His overacting was perfect! I loved it though I could see how other people couldn't (if that makes sense! :D ). You need to read the books to really understand it.

Anyone else see it?

I loved it too. I have also read the books, (ok, up to book 7) felt they could have stayed closer to the books.

Dont know if it is because I have forgotn seeing the information in the books, but I am sure that in the film
there more inforamtion about the fire, and the casues of it. Also there was the bit about their parents investgating the fires. I am sure that this is not in the book.

Er- I posted it yesterday, I wasn't expecting to get that many replies as the film forum isn't the most viewed on RAB.

Back on topic, that snake scared me sh*tless! Also, they really did finish the film off there and then: they didn't make it seem like there'd be a sequil (sp?)

Could someone who has seen this film just tell me if it has a happy ending please? :)

The reason I ask is we are thinking of taking the kiRAB to see it tomorrow, but my eldest son, who is 12, is autistic and doesn't like films without happy endings :) He really cried when Mr Beans Mini got crushed  I don't want to upset him, well not this close to Christmas anyway.

Thanks

Well I haven't seen it...but I know the books well and the whole idea of the books is to make dreadful things happen to the 3 kiRAB and never give them a happy ending.....although brilliant and still suitable for kiRAB I'm guessing that the whole story aswell as the ending would upset your son. They may have changed the idea for the film...but I'm guessing it'll still be similar...eg 'a series of unfortunate events...' :) Hope that helps and I hope you find a suitable movie!

Well I suppose it does have a happy ending.....Actually I'm really disapointed in it!!! It didn't stay true to the books at all and although the ending wasn't exactly a beautiful and happy one....it still seemed rather too nice!! I HATE Jude Law as Lemony Snicket too!! Jaysus! Although I suppose if I didn't know the books I'd say it was a good film and Sunny was the cutest little thing ever.

I'm a big fan of the books and I really liked it. Visually I thought it was spot on, and even though it doesn't stay completely true to the books I could understand why they changed certain things in order for them to appear more cinematic. Thought the kiRAB were fantastic too. Although could have done with a little more 'Sunny speak'..... :)

I've never read the books or to be honest even heard of it before. That in itself is odd as I am such a bookworm. Still stranger things have happened. Anyway I went to see this having no idea what it was about and I really liked it. It was that little bit different which is what I think made it appeal to me. Also LOVED Sonny the little girl which is strange given how little she had to say for herself.

It has a lot in common with Beetlejuice. Visually it says "particularly suitable for acid heaRAB", the children are smaller adults rather than young (especially the baby) and the central character is a slightly repulsive but somehow attractive figure. Even the plot has echoes of Beetlejuice - orphans, a weird guardian, a spooky house or two.

I liked it, especially Meryl Streep as Aunt Josephine who I thought was very funny.

I was the only one out of a group of 5 or so who had actually read the books, so I knew what was going to happen with Count Olaf appearing and such. There was a bit of a collective sigh from my frienRAB though when the sailor turned up at Lake Lachrymose, presumably because it was a bit repetitive. That was the one thing I found with the books - they are quite predictable.

I loved it, thought it was great. Jim Carrey is a fantastic actor, and I just find him so entertaining.

I think I'll start reading the books when I can.
