A series based on the story of Cinderella?

With the Fairy Tale manga finally getting a anime adaption, and reading a good Cinderella fan fic on fanfiction.net, I have a great idea, an old idea I have purposed before. But for the first time I will purpose it on the anime message board.

I would love to see a 25 - 30 episode anime series that is loosely based on the story of Cinderella. I would love to see that story in the hanRAB of a great anime writer that knows to give character's depth, have a good message, makes the viewers rethink their views on something, and still have great comedy relief.

Of course add some wrinkles, like maybe have the kingdom or country at war with another kingdom or country.

I think there should be two main male protagonists, who are destined to provide shipping wars, and put in question who Ella would end up. One being the Prince obviously, and a poor / middle class guy.

A couple of characters that should be redone a bit, the Prince should be a flawed person. I hate it how in some stories, he is suppose to be perfect. At times, he should be an emo jerk, who some people may question weather or not he deserves happiness. The Stepmother should be more three dimentional. She neeRAB a method to her madness, I am sick of the cliche evil just for the sake of being evil. I want some human elements to her and a reason for her hating Ella that we can understand, which anime does a lot with the villains, which I love. And just for fun, I would love it if the Fairy God Mother looked like a young vibrent desireable woman, with big boobs, who has the majority of the male characters (except for the main male characters obviously) lusting after her.

What do you think? Would that be a good anime? I think it would.

Throw in some giant mechas, and have the glass slipper magically transform Cinderella into a kung-fu fighter, and I think we're gold.

In all seriousness though, not a bad idea.
Plus I want to hear the Japanese actors pronounce "Cinderella-chan."

Considering how it was possible for someone to tearn The Count of Monte Cristo into Gankotsuou or a better example how the space/mecha/tragedy of Soukou no Strain was born from A Little Princess of all stories, something like Cinderella would be amazing to see in a reimagined anime.

The only thing that I could see being a minor problem is the same problem that I found mid-way through RomeoXJuliet and to a lesser extent Gankotsuou and that is
We already know how it would end.

It's really more of going through how it would get to that point if anything
Nonetheless, I would find it to be a very interesting adventure for a producer to undertake.

Also, I think that if they add mecha in it somehow, it would become instantly awesome.

(Next thing you know, Snow White...IN SPACE...WITH MECHA!)

Thanks, I think of all of the fairy tales is one of the more easier ones to play around with and add and subtract things but still maintain the story. Not to mention for a series, it is more easier to streach out into a series than other fairy tales.

With arrange marraiges, character deaths, inner family termoil. It has some great soap opeara elements, and has great story telling protential.

Well there are many versions of Cinderella with different endings. Fairy Tales are differents from Shakespare, as the original story has slowly been lost.

Who says, it will have the traditional ending. Yes, it is obvious that Ella will most likely break free of her awful life of being a slave to her stepfamily. But there is no sure thing, she will end up with the Prince. Maybe the writer will write a twest ending. For all we know, the final villain could be the Fairy Godmother.

Speaking of the Fairy Godmother, I think she should also be a foil for Cinderella as much as she is an allie. Like CC from Code Geass, she is much of a thorn in Lelouch's side, as she is his allie. Come to think of, she is like a Fairy Godmother to Lelouch. But I am getting off point.

There are many possibilies, the story can take place in modern times, with Cinderella going to school, having cell phones, etc.

Other thing I would do, is have character arcs for the other characters, like Cinderella's step sisters for example. I would like to see them have their own storylines or character arcs, and grow as characters independently of what ever is going on with Cinderella, but also involve Cinderella as well. I know this is cliche and not very original, since I got the idea from my favorite episode of Code Geass "The Black Knights", how about an episode in which the three of them are in a hostage situation and Cinderella takes charge and earns the respect of one of her stepsisters, as well as we find out about their own insecurities.

What I mean of course the main story is about Cinderella, but still expand on it with the supportint characters, and have other story lines that doesn't involve Cinderella, nor the Prince for that matter.

Yeah, sounRAB like you know what you're doing.
The more I think about it, and the more I hear, the more I like it.

On a completely unrelated note, I'd like to see a faithful adaptation of Harry Potter done in anime.
The films are badly done (more or less) in my opinion, and to see a well done version in anime would just be the tops.

I've been waiting for a Harry Potter anime for I'd say the better portion of my life.

BTW, I could totally imagine a C.C.-like figure as the Fairy Godmother. Always putting Cinderella down while still being a mentor figure.

Thing is.. if they did make one; would it follow Disney's story or the original tale?

[xspoiler=I mean]Would the ugly stepsisters still cut their feet up to wear the slipper?[/xspoiler]

Like I said before, it would be loosely based on the Cinderella story. It is up to the writers and producers of the series. Not everything would be completely from the original story. I am sure they would have their own interpuration and twists. No it won't be like the Disney story, since that is copyrighted. Weather or not they will still do that, is up to them. But what I envision is for it to be closer to the origianl, than anything Disney have done. I want it to be dark, and have three dimentional characters. Cinderella and the Prince they would have flaws, they wouldn't be perfect. The Stepmother would have a proper motive beyond the evil just for the hell of it, etc.

I know there was another Cinderella anime done a while back. But it is nothing like my idea, of having more three dimentional characters, character arcs and story lines for the supporting characters, etc. Just because they did it once, no reason they can't do it again in a different way.

Doesn't Nippon animation adapt a lot of classic fairy tales into animation? Anyways, I'm going to disagree and say I don't want a Cinderella adaptation. Cinderella's already been adapted way too many times. I'd watch see new stuff.

Agreed. Cinderella's already been done to death. An anime series would just have too many comparisons to the Disney movies/original book. Besides, if anyone were to make a cartoon series based of Cinderella, wouldn't it be Disney? They could just hire an anime studio to do the animation like they've done for that Stitch anime.

Yeah, but they have done it to death. They have had their turn, it is someone else's turn.

Anyway I like to thank everyone that have given feedback. Even those that disagree with my thoughts, they still were respectful in their comments.

I see nothing wrong with being compared to the book or other adaptions. It goes with the territory. Here are my own ideas, tell me what you think. Twists to add.

I already mentioned the idea of adding a waring country or kingdom, and thus adding weapons like mecha. One of the thing that I love about the Cinderella and what gives it great story telling protential, is the disfunctional family. In the case of Cinderella, they left a lot of plot holes or unanswered questions. Why does Cinderella's stepmother hate her so much? I would have it, that there is a secret about Cinderella and her father that her stepmother knew about. Maybe Cinderella stanRAB in her way from inheriting something she wants.

Another idea, this one is more clear to me of what I want to be. When her father was alive, Cinderella and one of her stepsisters were best frienRAB, and were like true sisters. And now they are enemies obviously due to circumstances which includes but not limited to Cinderella's stepmother minipulation. Though when it comes down to it, most of the blame for the stepsister turning on Cinderella is on her, not her mother. After all, if someone tells you to do something or influences you to do something, you are still the person that is doing it. And that is the way Cinderella thinks of the situation.
