I love to write, and I have my novel all mapped out. Actually, I have about 30 novels all mapped out. My problem? Motivation. I lose interest in my projects about a month after I start them. What gets you motivated to finish things???

Any help would be appreciated!!

What gets me motivated to finish my writings are the happy thoughts about me showing it to someone or reading my story after I finish it. Also, it's about me publishing it and reading it to someone else. When, I think about those [happy] thoughts, I become determined to reach that goal and to feel the joy.

dont map them out from start to finish... that makes it boring after a while.

set small goals, like finishing the next chapter before friday

and if you come up with an idea, write a thousand words of the first chapter, then you can be sure if its good or not.

novel writing is trial and error.

the more mistakes you make, the more you learn. and those ideas that never really got the light of day are good practice for you.

You have to be passionated about your work. The motivation come from within yourself. If you love your characters, your stories, you'll feel compelled to write about them, to develop their lives. I think about my characters, so much. I love them as if they were real people. Thinking about them, seeing them as real people is what makes me write about them. Have a mental talk to your characters, think about them, in several daily situations. What do they do when they wake up? What's their favorite lunch choice? How old were they when they had their first kiss? What happened?
These little things can help you know you characters better, and writing about them just becomes easier.

Writing is how I unwind and though I don't work on it with a great deal of vigor at times I try to write every night. I also find it easier to write if I can lose myself in the story and the characters a little bit. If you feel like you live in their world, while you write at least, it makes it easier to work on. Another method you may try is just writing and not planning too much. Let the story take you where it will only planning as far ahead as the next event.
