A question about Windows Media Player?

I bought a new PC and before getting rid of the old one I temporarily transferred all my files to an external portable hard drive. I have now moved all my songs into the My Music file on my new PC (from the portable hard drive) but the files don't seem to play via Windows Media Player. What have I done wrong?

When attempting to play the songs I am getting the following message:

Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted.
P.S. In Windows Media Player when I right click on a song and select "open file location" the folder in which I stored the music (My Music) opens up, so I don't understand why it can't find the location.
I don't have another media player

Are you viewing a past playlist of the library?

Try going to the library tab and pressing f3, press OK, and let it scan your personal folders for your music. Hopefully that should add all the playable media you have.

maybe your portable hard drive contain a virus and the virus is now on your new computer. if not! make sure that your songs can be played by windows media player. wmp support only mp3 & wma audio files.
