a question about chinese culture?

We had an exchange student from china go to my university last semester and he was talking about how he was going to have his whole family over, i said he must be really excited with a full house. he said it was only his two generations. i dont get it?
 
HE IS CHINESE AND THEY ARE SMALL SO THEY EASILY FIT INTO EVEN A ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT EVEN 59 OF THEM.
 
he might have been talking about his parents and grandparent

i really don't know but that was my first thought
