I am planning a Camping trip in November, I haven't decided on whether to go to either Dartmoor in Devon, or the Scottish Highlands? which 1 would you recommend? I have to buy the kit, I.E sleeping equipment etc..

Which trip would you recommend? how much for overall expense?
also I would like to purchase a new pair of military boots? Hargaw seem the best?
I have previously served in the Military so I'm not a novice, although I have never bought my own equipment, hence the question about price

Sorry to pour cold water on your plans, but if you need to buy kit before a trip such as this this would be an indicator that you do not have much experience in camping, especially in 'wild' areas. The Scottish Highlands in November can potentially be very harsh, Dartmoor a little less so but can still be pretty bad. If this is your first wild camping trip, look for somewhere a little less harsh. Waking up in the middle of nowhere in a dense mist, tent coverd in frost is potentially a disaster.

As for boots. I can do no better than to point you to the uk.rec.walking boots FAQ - if you cannot find it using a newsreader then google groups http://groups.google.co.uk will have it.

Have fun, do something challenging by all means, but do not over-reach yourself and end up calling out the local mountain rescue crew
