A question about audio equipment. Pretty simple if you know anything...

...about audio or electical connections? Background:
I have a Sony 40watt x 4 channel head unit for a car i bought a a garage sale for $3. (yes it does work) I'm going to make a ghetto blaster out of it to take with me to disc golf cuz im sick of these pussy ipod speakers people have that do nothing but produce white noise. I found a pair of speakers in my basement that are rated to work with anything from 10 - 100 watt that sound great when hooked up to a regular amp.
Questions: Is it ok to have two channels go to one speaker? Would that make it 80watts? Is there special equipment or conections it would need, or can i just splice the two together?

Like i said, pretty simple if you know your basics. I would just connect them to find out myself, but i dont want to damage any of the equipment.

if your wiring the speakers straight to the head unit then you cant have 2 channels to 1 speaker , you would have to use an amp to do that
