A new law the city brings in

Ok a city of 115000 is having a problem and the problem is abandonned shopping carts everywhere, the city council wants to charge grocery stores and department stores $6 to get their carts back.

This will have a negative impact, since I work at a grocery store close to the poorest section of town and close to where a lot of old people live, there are two problems, the poor people will complain that everything has gone up as will the old people complain.

I hope the city council is glad that businesses are going to go under because of this due to the cost of things going up, and if it does then we will see a whole lot of places boarded up and for sale.

It is worst at the west end carts are everywhere on some days if you go for a drive there is around 40 abandoned carts. At my section of town I counted 6 abandoned carts.

But why the fuck charge the stores for abandoned carts when people are taking the carts off the property this doesn't make sense, if a car hits a abandoned cart the fuckin driver shoulda watched where he was going instead of suing the store, once a cart gets off our property its out of our jurisdiction. This law is lame the store owners shouldn't be paying the crooked bastards anything for lost carts.
 
what will wind up happening is more stores will have "insurance" carts... these carts have a device attached to them that require the insertion of a quarter or other coin to be released from other carts.. because they are chained together with the devices... a coin goes in and the chain releases.... when your done you return the cart to a return station and pushing the chain in, releases the coin..

other options are the supermarkets will install poles around the store itself, so that people will have to pull thier cars near the store to move groceries from the cart to the car.. because the poles will prevent the cart from being taken from near the store...

or just rig every cart with the floppy broken wheel so it would be a hassle to take the cart away from the lot..
 
Well, uh, if you're working in the poor area and the prices are going up, it sounds like you better start looking for a new job.
 
People still abandon the carts even with quarters in them,

But there were two shoplifters at my store last week and a guy who posed as a police officer (possibly connected to a murder five minutes away from my work)

The problem is the poor people will steal like crazy from the store since security is kinda lacking.

The grocery store is also (hopefully) going to be renovating soon instead of having equipment breaking down every week.
 
or, suggest to your store to make a policy that "every grocery cart brought back to us, we give you a dollar" ... This may or may not be the best way to deal with it however, as people will grab carts, and throw em off the property, and other people will bring them back and they split the cash or something... OR hire security.
