A military friend of mine showed up to work drunk?!?

What will happen to him? He is in the Marines and has gotten into trouble before. I think he is trying to cope with personal problems with alcohol- but I'm not making excuses for him. Does anyone know what will happen to his career?
 
It depends on a lot of factors.

Primarily whether somebody or more than one person want to give him a break.

I don't recall the terminology, but being drunk means being on duty while unable to perform your duties which can be very serious, probably career ending.

If his superior(s) decide to give him a break, they will find ways to avoid recognizing that it ever happened.
