a math elimination question?

okay, so my teacher only taught us how to do an elimination problem like this;
x + 8y = 3
2x + 3y = -7
which would look like this:
(2) x + 8y = 3.. and then solved this way.

but in my textbook, we have to answer:
5x + 3y = 4
-4x + 5y = -18

How do you multiply either of the variables? I don't understand it! If you can help me, can you please show or explain the work so I can figure out the others? Thank you :)
