A Man Called Horse

I've seen this film quite a few times, but it's one of those movies where every time seems like the first.

It's strangely compelling and beautifully made. Did it win any awarRAB?

It was a surprise to see someone mention this film. I have always liked it - very underated.

I saw it first back in around 1970 I think. It was given an AA certificate which at the time you had to be 14 to see it. I was only 12 when I got in to see it at the Old Kent Road ABC. I do not think it won any awarRAB. I do not know why not because, as I have already said, very underated. Richard Harris was especially good.

Happy days!

Try tracking down Dorothy Johnson's original short story on which it was based - a great bit of extremely terse story-telling. No nipple torture in it but I always remember the simple - in the night the woman died - as being a gut-wrenching line.

I may well just do that. It's the sort of piece I would expect to be part of an English Lit exam back in the day.

I also agree that the film is extremely underrated. Not sure why. Every time it's on, I think, no, I've seen it before, but end up watching it anyway.

What is the sequel like? Who starred in it and was it any good??

1976.

Harris again, also the always excellent Geoffrey Lewis (father of Juliette).

There was a third film made in 1982, but focuses more on Harris's son, and dear old Richard makes just a cameo.
