In regards to international calls.
If you are calling from the US then only calls to the US are free at this time. There may be services. In the future that may offer international calling rates like skype and vonage. Calls made from cruise ships will depend on WHERE the cruise ship is located. However, most cruise ships will have a secured wifi system. You may not be able to utilize the system. If you are in Europe for instance and you are on a friends home wifi system making a call then the call is considered as "originating" from the US and will be billed as such. If you make a call to a local European number from that wifi system then it will be billed as a local European call. The very important difference between calls made on wifi systems outside of the US is that they will NOT seamlessly continue if the customer leaves the wifi area the call will drop

In regards to the routers.
The d-link and Linksys. They both offer 2 antennas. On the d-link one is internal and one is external. They are both 49.99$ and are free after rebates. Its recommended that customers use t-mobile's routers than their own. Battery life for their phone , voice prioritization and a one touch button for a security key are the larger reasons as well as customer care won't troubleshoot any non T-Mobile routers. 5 lines can be supported on one router. Each line uses approximately 70kbs. The routers will support up to a 300to400 foot radius depending on construction. Homes that are 2700 sq feet and less can use one router. And homes larger about 4000sq ft or above may want to consider 2 routers.

Hope this helps out a bit. If you have any other questions then let me know. Sorry if there is any typos I typed this up on my device. Jonnyxedge

Yeah but are they going to add client services in firmware upgrades so that with 2 routers they can seemlessly hand off?? I have 2 of them and am just about to lowlevel JTAG one to get the client option through the third party DD-WRT software (and yes I know that the warranty will be voided but for me is worthe the effort and try).

thanks johnny i was talking about that Europe to US wi-fi calling in another thread but wasn't sure if it was still in effect...do you know when they will be fixing that so that you can't call from wi-fi spot in europe to US and get free calls? gonna be in europe next year so just wondering...also do you know if it's possible to get the iphone from germany t-mobile then bring it over here?

i'm assuming with later updates in device softwares you will be able to do so, i know that right now this service is still new and is still being worked out....but i'm waiting to see about the router hand off, i'm assuming that with the latest update for the 8320 you shoulod be able to dothis but I haven't been able to try it out myself

What you are saying about the handset is true, but you referenced setting up two different routers for a large house, but that is not possible wirelessly until the routers have a client server setup in the firmware like I was saying (unless of course if you want to run lan cable throughout the house in order to achieve this cascade effect handoff which is what I am trying to avoid). This means that the firmware needs to be updated to allow the routers to be a WAP as well as the current functions.

Quick question then just to clarify.

Let's assume that i am in europe and connected to a wifi router and i am not planning to move.

If I receive calls from the US and make calls to the US it will be free right?

How about the internet surfing? am I gonna get charged for it?

thanks

Yeah that's correct. If you use data then you'll be charged for data usage. If you're using wifi you can still use it without data charges. Wifi is wifi and not part of the data plan. If you took the sim card out and accessed wifi from your device you'll be able to do that with no problems.

It just hit me.
Even if I have the internet plan, BB plan and all the plans available ( which i almost have) am i gonna get charged?

I guess I should call customer service to be sure right?

thanks

If you have that data plan alread you would have to change it to the international blackberry plan which cost the same thing. Just allows you to use your device outside the US. Also you'd have to add international roaming which is free which allows you to make calls outside the US. Everything else would charge some sort of additional rate depending on where you are and where you are sending it to. You may want to call customer service to find out the rates per kilobyte and per message sms/mms. That I don't know off the top of my head.
