Historically, why do many people receive new and innovative work with reservation?

A.They are ill informed.
B.They have little context in which to view the work.
C.The work rarely sells to patrons.
D.They prefer representational art.

B) Historically art critics tend to be conservative. If it does not follow the current style, it tends to be rejected as the critic is afraid to take a chance on anything outside of the mainstream. The initial rejection of the impressionists is a good example of this.

Similar patterns of behavior exist in literature - many authors are not properly recognized until after their deaths. Music too tends to follow this pattern. Both Jazz and Rock and Roll were not easily accepted
